Look into the Alpine CVA-1014 or CVA-1004

those are cheap alpine head units with screens, you can find them for around 600 online

I actually fooled around with one of these at Circuit city today....

The screen is f**kin awesome, crystal clear....It actually came in brighter and sharper than some of the really high end units. However the controls are terrible, they feel extremely cheap. I would hope you would only use the remote because the knobs feel like they would pop off in your hand. I was actually quite close to purchasing it, but was worried about reliablity. Apparently the guys there said they recieved more returns due to defects on the Alpines!
They said they sell more of these units than alpines, and these seem to be a lot more reliable, but of course you sacrifice lots of features of the high end models. I.E. Equalizers, Display Settings, Visualizations, etc....

If you are looking for a cheap video unit without all the frills, and fine tuned audio output of high end models then pick this up. However, if you do I would definately pick up a good service plan just in case.

Dood.. I have a Jensen headunit and no complaints here.. I love it, never skips, never has any problems, I just love it.. No problems AT ALL. My 100$ jensen is better than most 300$ units out there.

Not so much on Jensen. They used to be great but it's not too terribly difficult to be good when your competitors are Kraco and Sparkomatic.

I'd want to see the actual picture quality first before I pass judgement though.

It's incredibly clear, I was suprised at the clarity and color of the screen. It actually looked better than a lot of more expensive units.

i wouldn't put the jensen my car personally... but for the price, it's a decent unit. now, i quoted you cuz you can't even compare the 1004 or the 1014 to the jensen.

yeah, i agree that the alpine is a higher quality piece.. but it doesn't do anything. it's just a screen. so any money you save getting it used is pointless cuz you have to buy another DVD player. not that i'm complaining too much, i have the 1004... just saying that the jensen and the alpine shouldn't be compared since they're nothing alike.

if you can wait to save up, that's what i would do but if you're set on getting something in that price range, the jensen will probably be fine.

why a 1005? i'm having probs finding specs on it though. complete ones anyways.... correct me if i'm wrong... but it's just a screen isn't it? doesn't look like an all in one.. but it's not much cheaper.

so if you want an all in one i'd go with the first one... but if you want a stand alone unit that's just a screen & you can hook up a seperate DVD player/navigation etc... why not the 1014?

but like i said, i can't seem to find anything except reviews on that damn thing.
