I just bought a 1997 dx hatch and did so for cheap transportation but after driving it and seeing all the stuff available for these cars I am considering dumping some money in it . First of all I would like to do a complete engine swap to gain some power and have something to work with besides whats under the hood now it runs good but I need some horses under there so I need some advice on which engine swap will be the best bang for the buck where or who is good to buy from and hoping do do as little modification to the car itself as possible . I have some money to work with but am by no means rich . I wanna make this thing rock and roll and embarrass some ( as many as humanly possible )of those ford and chevy guys . I am a boat mechanic who has all the tools and mechanical abilities to do pretty much anything that needs to be done to it within reason and am going to be off in the winter months with time to do it so let me know I am new to the site but am really interested and hope you guys can help me out !

w that much money. you'd get a great swap. but the thing is to ask and research before you spend all the money. the time is going to cost you more than the actual dollar bills. i'd say a nice and easy b series FTW.

b16a2. or maybe an LS motor out of an Acura Integra, or poor man's type r, the GSR.

but the b16 is the effecient way to go. but if ure wanting to "embarass" the v8 crowd, youre gonna need a turbo...a big one.

a k motor alone would be about 5k for the motor/tranny/etc, and then he'd have to have the exhaust fabbed up and modify under the hood to get everything to clear the taller valve cover....

it all depends on his bidget/time/desires

if the TOTAL amount you want to dump into the car is like 3-4 grand and you want the car to be as fast as it can be with that budget.. i would say gsr swap and nitrous...that would be a relatively quick car...

D16Y8(96-00 EX engine. 127hp, 106lb/ft) OR D15B(92-95 SI engine, 127hp and 109lb/ft) I think. don't quote.
Both are direct swaps with V-tec. and there are many many mods for both engines to get that hatch screaming. then drop it and get some wider tires and a short throw shifter(just installed mine today, i love it!) maybe some minor CLEAN interior and exterior mods and you'll have yourself and nice little civic.

That's only if you have a 4 grand budget.

But if you really wanna roll, get a B series.

turbo d16 and spend the rest of the money on suspension and a good alarm system.

get a spoon engine, You could get one around that price and you Really don't need to worry about anything Breaking Down. IT COMES " RACE READY"... The engine just wants you to keep on pushing it more and more until you get tired of pushing it.. PLus, you'll be the only person to rev limit up to 11000 rpm =)...http://youtube.com/watch?v=M9VFEeA6z1U
