Just installed alarm myself!

So the past few days I've been working on installing my Prestige alarm on my Civic. It's the first time I've installed an alarm and it feels so great after accomplishing it! =) I saved a bit of money on installation and also gained a lot of knowledge on this. It was quite easy to do too cause I had prior knowledge on installing sound system wiring, so it's a bit similar, and also had my brother and friend help(whose never installed alarms either). In addition I installed a trunk release mechanism so I can pop the trunk with my remote which would be extra handy. Next mod will probably be remote power windows roll down, I cant wait!

just some random info:
Prestige APS-25CH : $50 shipped (ebay)
No name brand trunk release : $11 shipped (ebay)
misc. wires + taps + wire loom : around $10

even though my alarm was just a basic one, if anybody has any questions about alarm installation I'd be more than glad to help ya, just reply to this thread or PM me =)

here's a couple glamour shots of the ride, enjoy. (2000 EX Coupe)

imo not worth ccheaping out on such an important mod to your car, a proper alarm can literaly save you thousands, and in case of robber many companies liek viper etc if registered pay money to your insurance...

check to make sure the co. warranties it though. majoroty of comps will only warranty devices installed by an auth dealer.

congrats on the learning experience though

I understand that a proper alarm + installation will better for the car theoretically, but I've heard many stories of expert robbers breaking and driving off with cars that had hundreds of dollars spent on deterents. So with that in mind I just wanted to get something less expensive to keep away rookie thieves, also to gain experience.

Audiovox does provide a form to send to my insurance agent for a "maximum insurance discount authorization" but I probably wont be able to use that since I installed myself right? lol

Thanks for the comment

I do think you can still use the form.
\Insurance doesnt ask for a proof of install
so go for it

I dont mean to argue with ya but money or no money it doesn't really matter living in Houston, TX. this place is a breeding ground for top notch auto theft. fyi just the beginning of this year there was an outburst of nice civics being stolen in the northwest side where i live, and they all had higher model alarms with pager remotes etc. if they wanted my car bad enough they woulda gotten it, alarm or not, but mine would be a less potential victim since it looks pretty much stock.

installing an alarm isnt too hard...props to you for doing it on your own....did you put a hood pin? and tap into the door triggers and trunk pin? i did my own (but i used to be an installer)...i used every option the alarm had...hooked up up to my horn instead of a siren (who pays attention to a siren?)...i also moved the horn and the hood release cable to the inside of the engine bay...and i am mounting the siren i didnt use under the dash inside of the vehicle (tomorrow)...plenty of room...and it hurts the ears...its not much...but its my car...i left out my shock sensor...with every entry point covered and starter kill...i hope i got everything covered...

hey kaace,
yeah i hooked up the hood pin and also the open door triggers too. but as for the siren-to-horn i really wanted to do that too but my alarm only gave me a siren option. is there a way to hook up the horn instead? I have some air horns hooked up too so i'd like to use that. i miss the sound of my stock panic button with air horns =(

i do understand that i could totally swap out the siren for the horns but i wanted the pulse honks, it would be a long constant honk if i swapped right? is there any kind of pulsing mechanism that i can tap to the siren output to have both?

it depends on if your siren output is pulsed or constant...i think they sell relay would changed it to pulsed...i will look around for you...you can go to www.the12volt.com and look around there to get lots of info on alarms and stereos...they even have wiring diagrams for vehicles...cool site...it taught me how to fiberglass...
