Whats up, i've been talkin on here for a while about getting a stereo and i finally ordered it. I got Alpine CDA-9851 HeadUnit, 6.5" Type-S Component spekears in the front, 6x9" Type-R Speakers in the back, and an Alpine MRP-F250, and all the little extras. IM EXCITED!!!!! I just have a feeling im going to f**k up the install =\. I ordered it from Crutchfield so hopefully it will come in handy and help me out enough its my first install. =) I just hope that all goes well! I dont know if they explain it but does anyone have suggestions or tips as of how to keep the stock radio in it, i need it for my keyless entry.

but the rears are a pain in the ass, you have to take apart your whole back seat and panels. (at least in miine)

I looked at the how to's and i didnt see anything about relocating my current head unit in order to keep my 'keyless entry'? What do you guys suggest? Or will crutchfield tell me how to do it?

Crutchfield should supply you with the correct Y harness to keep your OE HU in place for the keyless. The harness will have an extra green hookup for the stock radio. Just plug it in and stash the OE HU behind the dash somewhere. While you're finding a secure spot, have some zip ties handy to make sure it doesn't shift around back there.

The HU is the easiest part of the install. Crutchfield will help you over the phone. Just be sure to have a hands free set to make your life easier. The hardest part of the install will be running the wiring if you've never done it before. My advice is to take your time and do a clean install. Hide all the wiring and pick up some loom for the wires in the engine. Other then that, good luck and enjoy some clean tunes. :ok:

Would it be smarter to just put the stock radio in the back? or could i possibly put the new head unit in the top and the old one in the bottom for clock / keyless remote? Would that work or no? I have a 98 EX so... i already have the cup holder

I disagree. He'll need to keep the OE HU hidden if he wants to use the stock keyless. Remember he has a 96-98.

BTW, since you're installing what you could do is keep the stock HU where it is and put the after market in the spot behind the cup holder. That way it looks stock to theives, but as long as you keep the cup holder lid up, you won't be able to see it.

He can call and ask or even call Crutchfield tech support, but I'm sure every 96-98 owner here will agree. We've done a bunch of threads on this topic.

96-98 honda civics if equiped with a stock keyless entry system will lose the system if the stocl headunit is removed as well as the domelight supervisopn which can be bypassed

On another note...why did you get type S comps and type R coax's...?

IMHO you should have done the exact opposite and done R comps and S coax...Your components are the main source, and your 6x9's should be to balance everything...Hell I dont even have my 6x9's hooked up to an amp at the moment hah.
