for low boost applications (5-8psi) you wont need any internal mods, ive even seen people running 10-12psi with a REALLY good tune on stock internals. but i wouldnt risk that unless you have the $$$ to get it tuned to handle it

as for upping the boost, get a boost controller, and different springs for your wastegate.

dude any thing and everything will wear down your motor nitrous wears it down boost wears it down reving High wears it down vauge question a better question would be how long will the motor last on boost or nitrous or N/A but still then take in were you live how you will be driving it how good of tune it is how big the turbo is so much to learn

research research research..... then when you think your done, read a little more and then you will realize how little you know (not making a personal statement to you) But there is so much to know about turbos that once you learn quite a bit about them you start to realize just how much there is to learn on the subject.

1 of many to make sure your turbo is running like a champ; make sure its getting lubbed by oil and if you don't have a turbo timer make sure you let your rpms go down to idle before you turn off the engine. One easy way to kill a turbo, needs that oil

But

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boost_controller should help with some of your questions

yea if you need to ask how to turn up the psi you should prolly have someone else, that really knows what theyre doing and can tune, build your kit for you

psi doesnt mean anything. saying 12psi isnt very safe is completely generalizing without basis.

i ran 12psi on a halfass tune on my car that i whipped up in 5 minutes, and ran it for about 3k like that until i sold the turbo kit. but it was only a t3. if it were a huge snail, i might have had a problem
