Keyless entry with new radio

Sorry if this was asked before but I know that you need the original radio in order for a couple things to work like keyless entry and the domelight but I already have my newer radio in. I've heard of people having the old radio sit at the bottom and still wired up so it works, how?

Well I have a 99 ex with a newer Alpine deck, and the domelight and keyless entry work fine. That's how I bought it.

I have a 96 ex and a 99 em1... In both I have an aftermarket radio and both work with keyless. In the 96 I had to put the stock radio behind where the aux. input is and wire both up and it hides it good and all works great. In my 99 I just have the one radio in and it all works great so I am guessing that there is a difference in where the keyless entry brain, transmitter is in the 96-98 and 99-00
