are they worth getting? simple question yes or no, i dont speed much but i thought it would be good to kinda keep around for cruisin with friends and stuff.

I bought a $30 whistler from walmart and it's saved me numerous times so I have to say Yes. It works excellent in the city; picks everything up with good range. Mine however does not have a highway band and does not pick up whatever the state troopers use.
yeah i was looking at a cobra the 9630 it looks like it would have everythign i need

Some are Radar and Laser Detectors. They don't detect the presence of cops. 
It has 0% chance of protecting you from being paced
It has a 0% chance of protecting you from Air Surveillance.
It has a minimal chance of protecting you against triggered on LIDAR (laser) If it squacks and indicates LASER, slow down. You might have gotten a lucky bounce from someone else being lased. Mine usually only indicates that I'm being lased as it is happening which doesn't really help. My speed has already been measured by then. I'd say less than 10% effective
It's pretty damn effective against K and Ka when the cop is lazy and just leaves it on. Triggered on Ka I get a lot of little chirps and then the big scream when my car gets radared. Probably 50-75% effective
It's too effective against cops in the boonies with X band. I'll hear that damn thing beep for miles. 100% effective if I don't ignore the damn thing.

Lol Werd, X band gets picked up by mine from so far away that I tend to ignore it and speed up just as the cop comes in sight.

picked up a cobra, and i was cruisin home and some white civic wanted to race, right as he gunned it the thing went crazy so i just kept crusin pretty sure the cop was in the oncoming, because it was a divided highway....
Do yourself a favor and get a V1, it doesn't matter if the popo are runnin constant on or instant on radar it will detect it! As far as laser your screwed unless you have a jammer (period)!lilwhitecoupe said:

X is not used in CA so you must be picking up store or door openers!
they use x band around here, the cobra i have has been workin pretty good these last few days
