leak leaving big stain on back seat of my friends civic

so my friend has a 98 civic Si and lately he has noticed a big stain being developed in the center area of his trunk. he already has leaking struts and think that's the cause of this, hes gonna get it replaced soon though.
he just wants to confirm.

so does anyone kno wats casuing this stain? thanks!

Does the trunk sit properly? If you push down on the corners of it does it move?
My trunk wasn't seated properly and water was getting in when I was driving in the rain.
