Ok, i may sound like a total dumbass, but i dunno anything about headlights. The cops told me to take out my xenon bulbs so i did, they said cuz theyre blue theyre illegal. Im curious as to why new beamers and such are allowed these and my 5g civic isnt? they say because they are projectors and mine are blue bulbs. I need some input on what headlights are legal, and really nice. Such as the TYC one peice projectors for the 5g civics. Are those legal? and i also need to know if SAE and DOT apply to canada? I know i sound dumb but hey, i needa ask around somewhere. thanx

It's not the actual headlamp housing that is illegal, it's the bulb......the bulbs that xenon and others make are strictly just for sho, unless it states on the pkg DOT. Beamers and other top of the line cars dont have xenon bulbs.....they have HID bulbs, which are DOT approved, yet way more expensive than the $10-$15 xenon ones.

new beamers not only have H.I.D. bulbs but also have H.I.D. systems. which last i checked was around $1500 for honduhs.
easy way to check for legality is to hold a piece of white paper about a foot fromt your headlights. if the light on the paper looks blue at all, it's illegal. beamers and such can look like their headlights are blue or purple but when cops do the test the light shines pure white.

I've gotten away with it by buying kuzo "H.I.D." bulbs. the entire package is written in chinese or korean or whatever, except for big white bold letters on the front that say "H.I.D.".
most of the time cops are too stupid to know the diff and will let you go. :D

The easiest way to test legality is to look for the DOT label on the package. Also, some bulbs are only legal with some lenses or housings. H.I.D bulbs that plug into halogen harnesses are highly illegal, and knockoffs like xenon's are easily mistaken for these pseudo-H.I.D. lights. You need to think not only in terms of legality, but also convenience. Chances are you will get pulled over with anything that resembles H.I.D. Even if you buy a legal, DOT approved product, you will still get stopped, and you will need to prove the legality of your lights. In PA, even cars with factory H.I.D. often get stopped. If I were you, I'd stick with normal looking high wattage halogens such as superwhites for now, and wait until H.I.D. lighting or knockoffs attract much less unwanted attention from the authorities.

Hmmm played out...... That seems to happen quicker than most of us can get down the 1320. It's sick, really. Someone has something we thing is hot. In a matter of days we've seen so much of this hot mod done on lame cars that we vomit just thinking about it.

One example is those glowing pissers you see on every hood from the ricyest import to a 1984 chevy. At first I was intrigued by the blue glow, wondering if they were using those dots on their hood to highlight some bigger, more significant mod. Then I realized that every oxidized Buick Century had them.

Either HID's will go the way of glowing pissers and altezza's (another thing that everybody thought was hot until cars without them became more rare than cars with them), or HID's will become the way of the future, with DOT all but forcing car manufacturers to install them from the factory. With prices over a grand for HID, you don't want to become a fashion trend victim when they fall out of style.

Ive never once been pulled over for my headlight system. My headlight system was the gen2 projector lights sponsored from apc (which i recomend to no one) (nor do i recomend anything from apc to no one) and the lit up blue when you turned them on. but they resume to white. But actually never mind it just sux. i dont want to talk about it anymore cuz it just pisses me off
