Im sure this question has been asked and answered a million times, but all my searches reveal different answers.

In my 99 civic si, I have a sony head unit, Kenwood amp and Sony Xpode subwoofer.
I honestly just dont like my sony head unit and i want to put back in my stock Si head unit but keep the sub, amp, and all the power.
My sub does have speaker level inputs, I was told all i have to do is tap a signal from the rear speakers and connect that signal to the speaker level inputs on the amp..is this all I need to do for this project?

Otherwise, I also found out I can hookup the Line Output Converter behind the stock headunit, tap into the speaker wires, then just plug in the already installed RCA wires to the LOC. What about the Amp signal wire? Any help would be great.... ps: if this works out i will be selling the sony head unit, if anyone wants dibs lemme know.. i will have pics and what not..... but besides that--Help?!

you would be best using the line output converter. if you tap into the rear speakers you will be losing power to the rears. Plus you are going to be sending regular music thru the sub. I dont think you will want to do that. If your sub draws to much power you will end up frying the head unit.

Gotcha, but that would only be a problem if i DONT use a line output converter??

Use the line out converter.... The amp should be able to use the crossover to filter out the music and just put out bass... as for the amp signal, tap into the 12v accessory wire on the harness

Let me elaborate this so you dont scare NoBoost......

Tapping into the rear speaker wires will not reduce power enough to notice a difference....

As for sending music to the subs, the music is filtered out with the Amps built in crossover....

As for the AMP drawing too much power.... that is connected directly to your battery to draw power, the remote turn on is just to tell the amp to wake up and never draws more than 12 volts.....

Think before you open your mouth next time.....

Gonna agree with DaGFTDone on this one.. use the LOC... especialy since you already have the RCA leads run...

just a clarification: if you were to skip teh LOC and use the line level inputs, there is no real threat for damage to the headunit because of "drawing too much power"
as far as sending music to the subs, the high/mid freqencys are generally filtered out by the amp if you enable the built in Low Pass Filter (LPF)

Low Pass Filter - A network of elements used to attenuate all frequencies above a predetermined frequency. Frequencies below the cutoff point pass without any effect.

Thanks guys,
you have been a great help. I will use the LOC behind the headunit and tapp into the rear speaker signal there. The RCA wires are already run so theres a plus. Also, my amp does have a Low Pass filter.

If i do this correctly, I feel a 'How To' coming along...
