Alright so I've had my lips for about 2 months now but I haven't had any time at all because of school, work, and the fact that I was lazy in between those two... so for about the last few weeks I have been working slowly but surely on painting them and getting them mounted... I had to go to my parents house, about 30-40 minutes away from college, in order to do all of the mounting and such, and I did all the painting on my patio of my apartment... 99-00 Type-R Front and Rear lips on my '99 LX... enjoy, I know I am 8)
Step 1:
I wanted to test fit/mount them before I painted them. I took off my rear bumper so I could drill the holes and make life a lot easier, but since my car is lowered i had to jack it up in order to get a socket wrench up there...
Step 2:
Here I just drilled out the holes for the screws using the factory "dimples" on the inside of the bumper...
Step 3:
After I screwed the lip onto the bumper...
Step 4:
Did the same thing as above for the front bumper and the drilled two holes on the under side of the lip to secure it the bumper even more...
Step 5:
Ran out of time with the sun, and having to go back home that night for work in the morning, I just mouted the bumpers back up, and of course there was a gap on either side of the front lip cuz the fitment was a little off so I would have to come back another day.
Front mounted:
Rear mounted:
Step 5:
So as soon as I found some time, I went to Wal Mart and got 3 cans of $.94 primer
Front primed:
Rear unprimed:
Step 6:
Got some time to go back home and try to fix the gap... here is a pic of what I was working with...
So I just mounted one side of the lip where it was supposed using the 2 screws, then trying to stretch the other side of the lip around the bumper and, with a little bit of muscle and some patience, I got the other side mounted to the bumper too...
Step 6:
Now that I had the gap fixed it was time to paint. Went back to Wal-Mart and picked up 4 cans of Duplicolor Gloss Black and 4 cans of Duplicolor Clear Coat... I did a couple coats of black sanding in between and then did a couple of coat of clear... and here is the result
So all in all I spent about $30 on paint and a few hours of my time, over a few weeks, and I love how it came out... I also decided to paint my grill too... I didn't have time to mount my rear lip today, but I am going to do that tomorrow and post some pics when I'm done...
