my driver side door lock is being a b***h.

when the door is open, the lock wont work, even if i try to lock it manually with a key or by pushing on the interior lock itself. but if i shut the door it works fine. i took the door panel off and everything looks fine. half the time i cant even lock it with a key. what could it be? i'm tired of having to take out all of my belongings every time i get out of my car

Same thing here, on my 96 I can't lock the door if I have it open, but as soon as I close it I can lock it with the key. The same thing happens on my Mom's Element, btw both Honda's have power locks. I think's it's a safety feature so you won't lock yourself out. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Yes, this is a safety feature to help keep you from locking your keys in the car. As f4113n said, just pull the inside door handle as though you wanted to open it, then lock the door at the same time. =)

I didn't know that, I always used my key to lock my car. Learned something new today.
