I have two jl audio 12w3 pushing 300 watt RMS each and 2 jlaudio side speakers pushing about 60 RMS each. Currently i have a alpine 700 watt mono class d amplifier not bridged. And i dont know much about this stuff so i thought id get some advice before i buy. Will a 1000 watt amp make my system louder? If i buy a 1/1000 amp will it work with both my subs, or do i need a 2/500 amp? I was thinking jl audio for my next amp but any suggestions would be great. Thanks in advance.

With a box that is correctly tuned and built for those subs you can make the cheapest subs sound like big boys. It is all about what you have them in. If you have them thrown in a universal cheap box, you are starving them and more power will not give you good results. It can actually make them sound worse.

The subs are going to take what they can take. I don't know the rating on those and I am in a hurry so I can't look them up, but if they can't take the higher wattage then you are wasting your money.

For the record if you get a 2/500 amp that doesn't make it 1000 watts total, that makes it 250 each side. You don't multiply, you divide.

unless you baught the box that was built specificaly for the jls then yes, it is the box, not the amp. and if you get amps then make sure its the rms power that mathces from sub to amp and not the max.

300 rms means the 2 together would run about 1200 max... just to be safe for an amp gut a good bos and 1500 watts and dont turn it up... its better to have more power than you need so your amp doesn't get hot...

So if i were to buy a 1/1000 watt amp would that work for both my subs? and is there a difference between a 1/1000 and a 1000 amp?
