So i have a stock y8 turbo and im getting bored with it and i think its time for me to step it up. I thought about buying a newer faster car, but i wanna keep my Civic. Im looking for the best DOHC motor to build for boost. I wanna be able to boost about 15-18 psi safely. A friend of mine knows how to build the motor and how to do alot of the actuall work. he just wants me to get all the parts together for the build, and swap. my goal its to make at least 300hp. I need some help as to what the best motor would be for me to build for turbo.

s**t anything other than h-series, I'd go with b16 since its pretty much the cheapest dohc you can get, aside from LS. You can build it up and get 300whp really easy, you wont even need to run such high psi even with a small turbo, if it's built and tuned right you can reach 300whp at like 12-14 psi. LS VTEC is also a very popular setup to turbo, but it'll cost you a little more.

What's your current setup on your SOHC?

I am sorry that is not good info at all.... B16 is not a good boost motor at all unless you want to deal with the ease of detonation in high compression motors. An LS motor is so much easier to boost. Just get the shitty flow of the head taken care of and do some headstuds and nice HG and boost the s**t out of it. Make sure you get a great tuner that will do it right.

He said he was building the motor, I would assume he's going to get some low comp. pistons?

depends what size you get....if you get the stock bore then no you wont have to bore...just maybe a hone....

if you go with bigger pistons then ofcourse your gonna have to bore it lol...

look for forged pistons that give you a comp ratio of around 9:1...that'll be easier to tune...and much safer than stock compression.

thanks for the help so far. are there any good websites go get good deals on used engines. im not too worried about the condition of the engine seeing how ima be rebuilding it for boost

how will the turbo i have now work on a B16 setup? its a garrett .42/.48. will it be too small and cause me to lose power at the top end.? if so whats the best turbo for a goal of about 300-350 hp.

.60/.63 should do you right, but you will need a maifold cause the turbo will hit the block with a cast mani.. The go-autoworks tig log mani should work fine with that turbo. you might have to shave the block with some manifolds.

ya a .42/48 will lose topend power at around 6.5-7k....i have one so i already know lol...if your gonna be revving high you need atleast a 60/63 turbo...should be good for around 400whp...
