Looking to up the boost

Hey everyone,

I was talking to the guys at Inline Pro who I have work on my car because I'm looking to up the boost. I am currently running 9 PSI at the moment. They told me that with a thicker head gasket to drop the compression and ARP head studs, I could run up to 15 PSI as a DD. I just don't feel that it will be very safe, especially as a DD. Both a thicker head gasket and head studs are already on the car, should I up it or do some other work before I turn up the boost?

Thanks!!

what engine up grades do you have? A short list would help us help you. What engine management, any head work and so forth

The only internal work besides the head gasket and head studs are cams. All the fuel has been upgraded and I'm running 440cc injectors, ACT HDSS clutch, will be upgrading to the Hondata S300 piggyback on a P28 OBD1 ECU. Also, i have a turbosmart 35mm wastegate. Will that be able to hold up to 15?
Let me think some more......Vortec BOV, t3/to4 turbo, 3 inch exhaust, manual boost controller, umm...that's all I can think of for now.

Like I said, I don't know how comfortable I am running that amount of boost on basically a stock engine.

Personally I would not. But a few get away with it because of a good tune. You're waste gate will hold that easy with a boost controller. I don't know how much a 35mm turbosmart wastegate can handle but its up there a bit i would think.I would really look into a forged rebuild and sleeved cylinders before you start turning the boost up too much. Either that or spend the money on a new engine when yours grenades. good luck. What size T3/T4 do you have?

Again. What motor would this be referring to? and what are the numbers you are producing now with the current 9psi?

Build that b***h. i would not turn the boost up at all. you're taking a hell of a gamble with a basically stock motor. and that turbo is not "small" at all. turn up the boost on a 60 trim on a B16A2 with only head studs and you will pop it from what i learned. That big of a compressor housing pumps alot of air compared to a .47 trim or even .50 I have a precision 6262 and before i got my engine sleved, my tuner said dont go pat 10psi on a built B18A cause the sleeves wont hold. This is what i have been taught by this site and my tuner about these motors. I tell ya, I'm a diesel mech by trade and this is only the 2nd honda motor i've built so im still in the learning phaze; i am suprised how durable these little aluminium motors can be under boost, they seem so tiny and in reality are. If you do it right tho mang, they are f**king animals and I love it ! Please dont blows yours up, i had to take the boost controller of mine yesterday, talk about self control.

the usuall stuff. pistons, rings, connecting rods. Main, connecting rod and thrust bearings too. Brand is up to you but imo, arias or wiseco for pistons and eagle esp rods. If you really whant to up the stakes and turn the boost up, sleeve it thru G.E. Its like 1,500 with shipping for a sleeved block. its worth it though if your gonna spend the money boosting. some people sleeve there blocks for extreme boost levels, me i did it for a little peace of mind under the hood. I'd rather it be bullet proof and not use it than have holes in my block down the line if you up the boost.let us know what u decide!

Will do. I just dropped about 2K in it this winter so i'm going to have to build my car fund account back up before I do anything real big with it, but it's going to happen for sure.

How do you all feel about a stroker kit?

never really delt with them. from what i understand a stoked B16 block will need to be sleeved if boosted. The cylinder walls wont take it if they are thinner after stroking.lol most who stroke B16's do it on track only cars. and thats extra$ after the sleeving! Iff its a DD i wouldn't

Yeah i wouldnt stroke it if your gonna dd it if its a track only or maybe weekend only car then i would say yeah if you have the money and want to.
But an already boosted and then stroked dd would be asking for some problems IMO.
