LOST!! Chipping/ tuning

ok, as of tonight i now have all the turbo stuff together (including a stupid FMU).. i have done lots of reading.
For a long time i was planning on doing the afc hack because i can get a unit cheap, but i think i want to chip..

Now, is it just me, or is the whole ecu chipping topic EXTREMELY overwhelming??? I feel like I dont know where to turn!! When i browse pgmfi.org, there is so much information every which way that i just get dizzy. Hell, in the intro to chipping article, the author comments on how he screwed up HALF of the first dozen ecu's he chipped!
There are plenty of people in my situation im sure..
With everyone talking about their cheap homemade turbo kits, i know everyone doesnt just go have it done by a tuner.. so whats the next step? Buy a chip and dive in?? Im scared!!

if you are scared about chipping your own ECU, then you can always have it sent to someone to have it chipped.

Tuning isnt to hard to grasp. Handlebars gave me a piece of advice a while ago, and that was to download the uberdata program and just start messing with settings to see how they affect things. after f**king with it for a couple of hours i figured out the general concept.

im stickin with chipped/sockted OBD0 PM6 to run turboedit, datalog, RTP.

we tune my bros mini-me with turboedit on a sockted PS9 ecu(OBD0

if youre going to do it yourself then you must. you dont need one if you go have it tuned by someone on a dyno.

welcome to diy efi tuning. emphasis on do it yourself. theres a lot of learning curve involved in tuning. if you arent prepared to do the work and research it yourself, pay someone else to do it for you. if your car is the only one you'll ever tune, its actually cheaper to have someone tune it for you. ive spent over 600 bucks on my tuning supplies- wideband, romulator, chip burner, chips, and cromepro. you can get a pretty nice setup from a shop for that much.

if you dont tune it yourself and are still going the chipped way, make sure the tuners in your area are legit. the ONLY reason why im using the vafc2 is because tuners in my area are s**t. they tune your car make a note of it and more then likely your s**t will be stolen. too many shady motherfuckers out there.

sorry to thread jack! but, im doing a pretty decently built all motor D16z6... should i chip my ecu, or use vafc? im getting a wideband gauge.... what u guys think?
