lost key, locksmith vs. dealer? HELP, STRANDED

Guys, I've lost my keys and am stranded about 300 miles from home :( I have a 99 Civic CX, I think the only option I have on it is AC. I was under the impression that the key did not have an immobilizer chip or anything, and that a locksmith should be able to make me a new one? I have no idea how many different Civic key combinations there are.

How can I be sure that my car doesn't have an immobilizer? The key was this black Honda key with horizontal "striples" of plastic on it with the word Honda, but no logo.

Would have called the dealer, but today being a Sunday...

Any help would be appreciated - I need to get home asap!!!

I may be wrong, but I am pretty sure that 6th gens don't have immobilizers. I have a 98 with the exact same key as you described. Its just plastic. You shouldn't have any problems getting a lock smith to make you a new key.

I had the same key you had, I have made two replacements from a generic locksmith in town and they work just fine. Make sure they file the key down alot though, at first mine got stuck in the ignition because the edges werent smooth enough.. weird.
