major problems with d16y8

OK guys I have a problem. The other day I was cruising down the street heading home and my car suddenly died when I shifted from 3rd to 4th. Pulled into a parking lot to try and restart and it was a no go. Had to wait about 10 minutes for it to start and it had a really bad squealing sound like a belt was bad or something. I managed to drive it home and the next morning I started it up and it has a horrific knocking sound. I need some help with it. I have a d16z6 block in the trunk that was giving to me and a nearly complete z6 head. My car is a 1998 civic ex

New Iberia huh? Cool! I was just there not long ago. The company I work for up here in Alaska is based in New Iberia. A helicopter company.. Anyway..

First thing I would check is your timing and alternator belts. Have you done anything recent to it? Battery good, terminals tight, grounds good? None of the other belts being broken or slipping would cause your car to stall out. Do you have a timing cover over your entire belt? This is the first place i'd look.

Sounds like it might have jumped timing or something.

Timing may have jumped then causing the knocking sound. Could explain the stall too. A place to start with anyway. Pull your #1 spark plug and verify you're still timed correctly.

Wow well I have the same problem with the apartment complex. We finally checked the crank in the z6 block looks like its in good shape. Lemme guess it ran good when u first start it up but when I gets warmed up it dropped the rpms down to almost zero and acts like it suddenly lost 90% comp.
