millage on title exempted ????

i was running a car fax on a car for sale nd it came up with this what does this mean"Exempt from odometer reporting"????

It most likely means that for whatever reason, the odometer reading is not correct. This probably means that at one point, the original odometer was defective and replaced with another one, therefore not displaying the correct mileage.

It means that the car is older than that of where they report mileage from. After a certain point they don't report mileage anymore. Reporting is only done for warranty purposes and the car is out of warranty range.

The cut off date is 10 years. After that it is no longer recorded on titles.

When i transferred my title and regitered my car here South Dakota, they didnt ask for the mileage at the clerk of courts, and i asked them about it. They said after 10 years it is exempt in this state.

That depends on the state then. When I went to register my 15 year old Camaro with 350k miles, they wanted to know how many miles it had.

I believe it is a federal thing being that it has to do with the Federal Truth in Mileage Act.

The requirements for exemption are:
1. Vehicle is over 16k pounds
2. A vehicle not self-propelled. (Trailer, etc.)
3. Vehicle is 10 years or older
4. Vehicle sold directly from manufacturer to a government agency in compliance with their contract specs
5. Dealer trades before they are sold to the first customer
