mini me is similar to the LS/VTEC and CRVTEC engines, except it is with the Desries engines. A mini me consists of a D15 or D16 non VTEC engine with a D16z6 or D16y8 VTEC head mated to it.

i actually know of 2 personally that done mini's and no problems. well, one had a problem, he turbo'd the mini and the charge pipe came off on the highway one day. when he put it on, he forgot to connect to line for something and spiked to 14psi and it went boom. but if done right, its good. just remember to use the correct gaskets, timing belt, and higher octane gass.

why do you need high octane gas? all civics are BUILT to run on regular unleaded... why would it make any difference? you may be changing things around but thats why you change your ECU also... well along with the fact of VTEC...

on 5th gen, a mini-me raises compression and requires higher octane gas or you will have detonation. all civs are built to run on reg, but a frankenstein motor is not stock

So in the long run is it worth the money??? Or would it just be better to save my $$$$ And buy a b series motor on tax return day?

if you plan on staying NA, a mini would be good to run with other singles. but its still not gonna touch duals. look at it this way, a duals wheel horsepower is more than a singles crank power. but its whatever your looking to get out of the car, so its your choice.

raises the compression to what 9.5:1? im trying to get my facts straight, not arguing at all, i just wanna know whats right..... the way i see it is this... the 1.5 bottom end is stock and the vtec head is ALSO stock. just a matched pair from 2 different motors, i dont see the need for high octane.... another thing ide like to point out is the compression ratio of the JDM SiRII coming in with 10.4:1... still built for regular fuel..... maybe im wrong, maybe im right, until something is proven otherwise, im stick to what i think...

compression is raised to 10:1. and im just relaying info from a write-up on the mini-me someone showed me. i thought the same thing when i first heard about this head swapping thing. i was like "how the hell does an ex head on a dx block make more power than the orig ex?" but its b/c of the compression.

i was just like you. i doubted it all too, so dont think im battling with you. regular is safe until about 9.3, and these engines are going over 10, so higher octane is needed. either that or retard timing. its also a safe measure b/c in the how-to i read, he got 10:1, but some people claim they are getting more around 11:1 with use of a thin y8 gasket. so the higher octane is just a safety issue so you dont blow your new frankenstein motor. (dont think a mini engine will have a knock sensor either)
