so i went to test my car for emissions today and just like last year it failed miserably. its a b7-z6 mini me and its got brand new spark plugs and a brand new cat amongst many other things i did last year but hydrocarbons are still way off the charts. i have a p28 in it right now and i heard a guy used a p06 instead for a quick fix. i can get one right now for thirty bucks. anybody have any suggestions?

You can use a non vtec ecu to help pass. Also the high the octane the better

I would venture a guess of getting a new O2 sensor and maybe a cat?? P06 would probably help as well.

... I'm glad i've never had to do this in all my life. Every state i've worked in has either been a non SMOG state or my vehicle was registered a state that didn't have to be tested. Good luck man!

not sure why a non-vtec ecu would make a difference. until the vtec engages, running off the the lower cam profile. Is the lower RPM cam profile really THAT different than the original b7 cam? I haven't compared the lobe info (I could, but too damned lazy to pull out the FSM to look)
Everything from the head up is stock z6, correct? no change in injectors, etc? Is the valve lash good, and timing set correctly? Also, when inspected last year, was a mini-me already swapped in? What else did you change besides cat last year to get the car to pass?

Last year i put in a stock cat cuz i had a high flow and they said they dont filter s**t also i had the stock injectors put back on and a few of ''my mechanics little tricks'' to help get it to pass even after all of this it was still just barely not passing. and now this year everything on it is oem except for the mini me swap along with the engine being rebuilt and only has about 5000 miles on it

California sucks for emissions. My completely stock single cam I bought failed smog due to a bad exhaust manifold. Replaced that with a DC Sports 4-2-1 SMOG compliant header, and an AEM Short Ram SMOG compliant intake, and it STILL won't pass. Cat replaced, 02 replaced, should finally pass. I had to get a buddy to help me pass it the first time. Sucks.

i think ill try a new 02 and the p06 for sure. but do you guys find it at all possible for a cat to be shot after just one year?

i bought the cat brand new ran me around 200 i wanna say. i have heard that there is ways to cheat the system but if anybody knows please ellaborate i will do anything just as long as it doesnt run me over two hundred other wise i can just go get a waiver from the health department like i did last year. just as long as i can prove i spent 200 hundred on ''trying'' to get it to pass
