my 97 si on startup sometimes will miss fire

i have the d16y8 engine and today it did it to me for a long time.. it started really rough then like it had a stutter in the gas when you reved it... then the rpms would go down and die... after about 4 times of doing this i finally said eff it and reved it hard to 4 grand.. on the downfall of the rpm the studder stopped and ran like norm... i think its spark plugs because i put a used head on it and didnt change the plugs... plz help me with this problem

Ya imma do that tommorrow... Any reccomendations?? Also when i bought the car i replaced the head so is it possible that the timing isnt set right?... i would think it woud run like crap if it wasnt but idk

You may be slightly off with timing. May want to make sure there's no leak (although you'd be leaking/burning coolant, and probably overheating like crazy) in the head itself. Spark plugs and wires would be my first step, then would be fuel filter and a fuel cleaner/additive.

realized that either my head or head gasket is bad... IF i get it to start it will blow out lots of white smoke... and cylinders fill with coolant... oil has millky colored spots in it
