My new Ek hatch!

Hey guys! Well I'm both excited and terrified of this project! I bought this 97 Ek hatch for 700 off my friend who never drove the car (he got it with 270 two years ago and now it has 275 lol)

Its got 275k, auto transmission d16y7 non vtec. I absolutely love the car and I just got the quarter panels cut out and replaced the other day. Paint doesn't really match up cause it was kinda faded before but I'll paint it eventually! The reason I'm worried is this! I just put 1400 in work to it. Andddddd I half throttle it and between 3-4 gear the rpm jumps from 3000rpm to 3300 rpm for a brief second then goes into 4th. I can floor the car and it holds all the gears but it seems to hesitate when shjfting between 3-4 gear if over half throttle. The tranny fluid looks dark and I'll change tomorrow. Will this fix my problem? I really want to keep this car for a loong time and need at least a year out of the transmission cause I'm broke (college life)

Besides that it rides like a dream and now no rust!

Minor mods, cold air intake, chrome valve cover, fancy cloth teggy seats, clarion deck, stickerbombed cluster! Ghetto ricer aluminum auto shifter (this was not my idea! I'd take stock over that any day), mugen oil cap, etc etc.

What do ya think? =) PS my purple 2000 hatch just died at 420k.

What exactly did you spend $1400 on? Cause if that was motor work, you could've/should've just bought a new motor and did a 5 speed conversion.
You might have to do a full on tranny flush rather than a drain/fill. That'll insure all of the oil fluid coming out and filling it up with new fluids. Not sure if it'll fix it all though.

I'm guessing a chunk went to the body work. Rust removal done right is expensive.

But yeah, OP, definitely start with flushing your tranny fluid. If you're still having issues... auto to manual swap!

Good luck though!

I was planning on a manual swap anyway =) And most was spent on interior rebuilding (had a lot of ugly ricer silver panels) Fixed engine aswell,. Put a Y8 head on it. Now transmission is like hesitating quite a bit between shifts. Doing fluid flush on Thursday!

Ya its an alright car. I love the thing but I'm soooo mad cause I had the quarters redone a week ago and I guess I took a really hard turn in the minus 25 degree weather and it force cracked the body filler!!!

Sounds like they used too much filler if it cracked like that

I should! I'm gonna wait till the summer to do it though! It looks alright for the most part right now and the college life murdered my bank account so my hands are tied till I get more money =)
