The short of the story is, I took my car to Wal Mart for a simple oil change. One of their employees evidently did something wrong, either left a tool or the oil cap or the hood prop rod out somehow that it shouldn't have been, and the end result is, my hood is bent up from them setting it down on ... whatever.

They're checking their tapes, but I'm getting together photographs of my own for insurance purposes. (I intend to make a claim either way.) I want to be able to show the damage, but all I have are pictures of the bent hood, and really the damage isn't all that painfully obvious unless you know what you're looking at.

Here's where some kind soul comes in: I need a picture of the underside of an undamaged OEM hood off of a 1999-2000 coupe, specifically the area around where the prop rod goes. I'll include my own picture for reference.

Whoever can do this, I'll figure out some way to fix you up somehow. And I appreciate your willingness to help.

Here's my reference pic.

Thats why I never let anyone else touch my car. Espeically WalMart :scurred:

If you still need a pic tomorrow night, Ill get you one. Ive left tools and s**t ontop of my strut tower area, and never had any issues w/it damaging the hood. :what:

Well, I appreciate you fellas' willingness to help here. Hopefully they'll call by tomorrow afternoon and I'll know whether or not Wal Mart is going to cop to this.

I used to work at a Wal-Mart TLE, they should cover it if you make a claim with them. I can almost guarantee I know what happened from looking at that. It looks like he tried to shut the hood with the prop rod open. Some kid did that when I worked there but the damage wasn't that bad, it just kind of bent the rod so he bent it back and left it. If they won't pay for it ask to talk to the store manager and if you're still not getting anywhere the regional or district manager. If they say they don't have the tape they are full of crap.

Now you know not to get your oil changed done at those kinda places, especially if it says anywhere "QUICK LUBE" or something like that.

heh i had my troubles with oil change places too...I did not go to wal-mart, I went to speedee's and they dented my front end of my hood. They said their cameras never caught it, and I had to deal with it for a while. But today I'm getting an VIS CF OEM style hood, so hopefully that makes for a big improvement. I hope things go well for you getting that claim reimbursed.

Changing your own oil is the same amount of hassle as taking it somewhere to get it done. Especially when something like this happens. Good luck with everything though

I guess I should apologize to somebody for taking my car to Wal Mart. It was just the only place open on Sunday for some reason, that I could think of anyway, and Sunday was the day I had to do it.

So I spoke with a representative yesterday afternoon, who said, basically: "our cameras didn't see our guy do anything wrong, and NO YOU CANNOT SEE THE VIDEO HAR HAR HAR!!"

Today I will go down and file my complaint on paper with them. My guess is they'll wind up paying for this, 'cause I think I can demonstrate that they caused the damage without the video, if someone up there is susceptible to the art of reason ... and I don't know about the douchebag I spoke to yesterday, but if I get high up enough in the heirarchy out here, somebody's going to realize that all I need in civil court would be a 51% believable story, not "beyond a reasonable doubt" as in criminal court.

I'll get estimates soon. I hope that they decide my hood needs replaced, and can't just be rolled out, so that when Wal Mart buys my repairs I can just take that money to someplace that sells CF hoods... save on painting, etc etc.

Well guys, just to go ahead and follow up for those who were kind enough to help out (thanks again!), I received a check in the mail for just a few dollars short of $900 to replace this thing. Pics in a few weeks when it's done...

Cool, and stay away from Walmart for oil changes! They jacked up a Nissan pickup I used to own. Overfilled it with oil, snapped off the oil sensor wire, and tightened the #$%& out of the new filter! At $90 it was a cheap lesson.
