Got a JVC deck for Christmas...stock stereo in '93 hatch...you know the deal.

I understand the steps to remove the old unit and putting in the new unit... It's the wiring that gets me puzzled. As far as I know, I just cut the old plug/harness and solder/crimp on the new harness that came with the deck? I have some experience in reading/writing wiring diagrams/schematics, and doing basic electrical work.

Here's what I know so far...
1- Remove cig lighter/coin tray, remove old unit, cut old harness
2- Wire in new harness, match up the colours (unplugged from the new deck)
3- Put sleeve in, and plug in new deck, put it in
4- Put everything back together.

I have read the DIY guide to installing the stereo already...This one: http://www.installdr.com/InstallDocs/Honda/PDF/466017.pdf

I'd recommend getting the wiring kit for your car.
Its basically a reverse harness that plugs in into your factory radio harness, so you don't mess with the original wiring, and it also makes installation easier since you can solder all the wires together somewhere else like in your house, and also the wires are color coded like the radio so its just matching colors.

You can get one at your local auto sound store or best buy or crutchfield.com

x2 what he said, do not cut up your factory harness, that way if you get a new stereo you can just rewire the new one again, or if you sell the car you can just plug your stock radio back in

i think when i sold my integra it still had the harness from my 91 civic lmao ... honda hadnt changed em in years, so it went from my civic to my accord to my integra

then when i bought my truck it also came with a kenwood but i liked the one i had better so i just swapped the decks and the kenwoods had the same plugs haha

Thanks for the advice guys. I'm thinking of using crimp butt plugs, so that way I can still put the OE stereo back in and swap the stereo and harness as needed.

Go and buy this kit
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=4555724&type=product&id=1051384099537
they can be found at any electronic stores that sells cd players. best buy, circuit city, and wal-mart for example

Take the wires that come out of your new cd player and match them up with the kit you buy. Then plug into the harness in your car. NEVER cut your car harness for the wires may be different colors then the cd player. It also makes it difficult to put different CD players in at later times.

now i'm so frusturated with my car....

The previous owner cut the original harness to put in some weird 3x3 plug (9 pin) in to accodomate the rear speakers...This is gonna take a while to figure out the wires because they are different colours....
