Okay, so i have a 2000 civic si and i was getting my system(two memphis 12's with a power acoustik 2200w amp) put in by a friend of mine. we had it bumpin and everything, so he told me to turn off the car so we could clean up th tools and make the interior look nice and cleaned up. so he went to move the box to make it center in the trunk and then the ground came unplugged from the amp and when he connected it back to the amp, i went to turn on the car and the head unit doesnt work. at all. and neither does the system. no lights...nothing. what could be the problem? we checked the fuses and everything is good. PLEASE help

If you haven't yet, pull out the radio and check the fuse on the harness. I checked all the fuses is a pretty vague statement. My guess is you shorted the amp and either the remote turn on or an RCA sent electric surge up to the headunit. And there is a popped fuse you have not checked

already checked the one behind the head unit, and the one in the power wire, and every fuse in the fuse box next to the pedals on the driver side...none of them are blown.

idk :(

anyone else? more opinions?

the amp is probubly done. and next time use a little bit longer ground wire. and try mounting the amp somewhere where it wont move. the back of the box is not a good spot since it can move around your trunk. i always mount mine on my back seat. u probubly fried ur headunit since it had all that power going through it looking for a ground. so my guess is u need a new amp and headunit.

These guys may be right, but unless you have money to blow, I wouldn't write it off that easy.

Do some deep checking. Try another head unit or at least run a test wire and connect the head unit directly to a 12v source. Tie the constant and the keyed wires together and hook them to a 12v source and the black wire to ground. I usually just hook them right up to the battery. Check to see if it powers up.

Check the amps in another setting to see if they power up. You must know someone that has a system (perhaps your friend that put the system in your car). Plug the amp into their system to check it out.

I have been installing stereo systems as a hobby for friends, family, and myself for over 13 years now and have NEVER run into a case where I blew an amp or head unit completely as a fault of the ground comming off.

There is one thing that is a given with doing stereo systems. You will get everything wired up, looking clean, and when you fire the car up 7 times out of 10 the system won't come on. Most of the time something just came unplugged.
