Ok here's the deal

I went to Florida last Friday, came back today. My car sat every day except sat when a family member drove it about 6 miles. They didn't use any electricity other than the AC & and head lights at night.

I come back and get in my car today and my CD player isn't working. It ejects and takes CDs in, but it won't power on or do anything other then eject or take in the CD. I also noticed that my DVD player doesn't have any power at all, and I'm assuming the same for my TV (can't tell unless DVD player is on). I didn't have a plug for the cig unit so I can't tell if it's dead.

I worked a half of day when I got back and by the time I got out I didn't have much time before it got dark so I checked what I had time to. Checked all fuses under the hood. None blown, backup / radio fuse under hood was good. Under the dash I saw that my radio clock fuse was blown. Replaced with the spare fuse and it still didn't work. Cig lighter fuse was good too. Checked 1 or 2 more fuses, both were good (didn't see anything on the fuse list that looked relevant so I didn't check all of them).

My batt cables (neg / pos) were the stock ones, and weren't the tightest (not loose, but like 8yrs old). Only took a few minutes and I planned on doing it to I changed them. I also checked my head lights, high beams, etc... long story short I verified that everything works except what I mentioned.

Only thing I could think and it's a long shot. While I was gone we had the hottest weather of the year here. I soldered the radio harness to the stock converter harness so I didn't have to cut wires and covered the solder spots with plenty of electrical tape. I doubt it but maybe cause it was so hot the tape came off one of the wires and it touched metal or something. That would explain the radio not working, but what about the dvd player and tv? Since the radio clock fuse was blown it had to have just happened or at the most a month ago. I installed the radio about a month ago and it worked fine up until today. I had the stock radio in before that and the clock worked so the fuse had to be good then.

Anyway. It's obvious that I should check the radio harness and see if the tape came off of any of the wires, but I won't have time to do that until this weekend so I'm wondering what if anything else could've caused this besides that considering the dvd player and tv don't work either which are two separate units (3 total not working). I seriously doubt the tape came off, but I dunno.... Seems wierd the unit still ejects, but doesn't power on and the others seem completely dead.

Last it was my father that drove the car. I know he didn't f**k it up. Didn't even use radio. Face was sitting in the same space in my house when I got back. Wouild've told me if he touched something.

Sorry if the post is long, tried to include everything at once I could think of so someone if anyone can help.

did you check the fuses in the units themselves? they usually blow before the fuse panel fuses to protect the units. best bet is to pull them out and inspect them, double check sodering, connection, fuses and stock wires. Good luck man, it would have been quicker to do that first, its always best to check fuses and connections at the units before going under the hood, its easier/cheaper to fix.

I was gonna do those things. Just didn't really have time due to the fact I started about 8PM. Didn't have much light time left. I jus did the things that didn't require taking screws out. Wouldn't be able to see how to put everything back together.

I did however take the dvd player out since it's in a location that didn't require removing the dash. Don't remember seeing a fuse in back of it. Will check again.

I read in another thread that DVD players and TVs are sometimes hooked up to run off of the radio power source. If that's true that would explain why all three work. I installed the radio but not the dvd and tv so I didn't check that.

Only thing that really has me confused right now is why does the eject / insert on the cd player still work but everything else is dead? If nothing worked that would at least explain something, but that seems strange to me. I'd think if a power wire was loose it wouldn't work at all. I'll find out, prob not till tomorrow though.

Checked it out last night. Couldnt see anything wrong with radio harness or wires and "radio clock" fuse was blown again. I'm gonna take it back to the shop that installed the dvd player / tv today. Problem has to be on that end

Sounds like you don't have switched power, since a CD deck will typically take and eject CDs when the ignition is not turned forward. Is it possible that your connection to the ign/accessory wire is bad for your system?

Haha, yeah, I had to stop back in and drop a little car audio knowledge.

Fixed

I guess the spare fuse I had wasn't good either... Put another and all is fine now.

Man driving without a radio for a few days was horrible. You never realize how f**ked up peoples cars are until you don't have a radio. Every bad sound a car can make on a highway I heard over the past few days....

It was dark.... Sad to say I took the bad fuse out, threw the spare fuse in my tool bag and put the bad fuse right back in.... Looked in my tool bag today and found it.

Everything is working now, but I still don't get why it blew in the first place? Checked all wires, none were exposed, radio wasn't even used (face wasn't in either), and tv and dvd player were turned of.....

Very wierd..... I've read on here where other peoples radio fuses have blown though so maybe it's not so wierd
