Need help with possible transmission problem

I have a 1993 cx hatchback that i swapped a d16z6 5sd into recently. I got it running and for some reason when i tried to back it out of the garage one wheel would not move at all (passenger side). So i figured the brakes were locked up since i hadnt move the car in a year, so i freed them up and swapped out a different drive shaft. BUT now that i got that side spinning the other side wont move now? What could be the problem, because one side will spin when i lift the front off the ground but the other one cant even be turned with a breaker bar on the axle nut. Any help or advice would be appreciated i need to move this car around before winter comes to store it.

That's not a transmission problem, that's an axle problem...

Thats what i thought at first but, the side that now wont move (driver) would before up until i swapped the axle out on the other side (passenger). I have three sets of axles to fit this car and they all produce the same result.

One of the axles is not fully inserted into the transmission differential.

Both axles are as far in as i could physically force them. and i didnt touch the drivers side that worked when i took the passenger side apart. I will take the drivers side out and swap in a different axle and see what happens im just confused on my it would switch sides,

I will tomorrow its 12am here. Could it be the wrong axle? like not the right length maybe? It just seems weird to me that the axle not being in all the way would cause it to lock up that hard.

I definitely see what you mean i cant get it to go in any farther but that is the side that moves freely? its the other side that wont move what so ever. Could the passenger side being to far out cause the drivers side to lock up?

Stay focused on the axle with the large gap. That's the problem. This axle replacement thread at Honda-tech has a ton useful tips - best one out there in my opinion.

Thanks ron im gunna take both sides out tonight and see if there is something keeping that side out too much. Hopefully i will find the problem i would really like to get this car moving so i can start doing more work on it.

Stay focused on the axle with the large gap. That's the problem. This axle replacement thread at Honda-tech has a ton useful tips - best one out there in my opinion.

So i decided to park the car for the winter(got other important things to do, find a job and apartment). So i put everything together got it ready to park and towed it out of the garage with our side by side and... it magically fixed/or broke whatever was causing the problem. I will now be getting the few little things it needs to get back on the road, since it hasnt been on the road in 2 years, and i might finally get to drive my car again . Thanks ron for helping me its nice to see a good community like CC on the very harsh internet these days.

Definitely look at the axles again, even though it appears to be working. if there is a gap you may have a broken pinion shaft, sun or planetary gear in the differential.

They should both seat completely in, But if only one will go all the way in and not the other, pull them both out again. Seat the other side all the in and see if the opposite will go, if the opposite will not go in all the way its the differential.

There is no possible way the shaft can contact the other, as they are not long enough. Even if they were long enough the pinion shaft is directly in the way.
