Need more power with out being obvious...

My 91 Si is a full-blown race car. It is completely stock however. We have to remain completely stock. Techs run inspections after every race to see if you're cheating. I am newer to the honda world and I didn't know if there were ways to increase horsepower in these things without making any obvious modifications that they can see. Intakes, headers and things like that are out of the question. I was just seeing if there were things that the honda people would know that would give me an advantage that most others do not know. The series I race in there are not many civics. I was wondering about spark plugs, things to add to the oil, fuel, things you can do to the internals... things like that. Also, suspension has to remain stock for the most part, but I have a little room for modification, so if there are any suspension tricks for better cornering, that would be great. Any input would be awesome. Thank you.

You have a full-blown race car but don't know anything you can do to the internals?

I didn't know if there was anything that you honda guys know to do to stock internals... if there is anything you know to do with the head, shave it or what, or camshaft, or whatever. Thanks for the help though.

Yeah you can put bigger camshaft in, get the head ported and polished, port match the intake manifold and throttle body, put higher comp pistons in, bore it out a bit. There are a million things u can do. It's an internal combustion engine out of an automobile and your going N/A. Just about the same process in any car

Are you allowed to build the internals?

Thank you horny kermet for pointing that out because the last guy must not have seen that. My internals need to stay stock. BUTTTTTTTTT... i'm not a honda guy. I"m looking for TRICKSSSSSSSSSSS that you guys know about that can have me sneak past tech inspection. That's all. come on guys.. help me out. I need a few more horsepower... what can i do to sneak some more in??

Can you upgrade with OEM internals? It'd be stock Honda but upgraded...

And I would look into their inspection process and see what you could get away with if you're really concerned about it.

Yeah definitely. just has to be stock for that year make and model. what are you thinking? also, i'm not opposed to tuning. Is there anyway to tune my stock ecu to run a little "hotter"? Is there anythign I can do with fuel? i wouldn't want to throw in bigger injectors without tuning it... you know?

Running bigger injectors without changing the fuel trim wouldn't do you a lot of good. Because it's your ECU that's controlling how much fuel is being put into the cylinder. Running larger injectors just increases the potential amount of fuel you could run.
And you probably couldn't get away with a tune then, they would probably check for chips.

light weight flywheel? it wont nessicarily give you more horsepower but it will allow your engine to utilize the power it makes a little better :what:

yeah i said that. i can't run injectors without a tune. i know. and im not talking about a chip. i'm talking about software. a real tune. not chipped.

and yeah. has to be stock clutch. that might not "fly". haha get it

you haven't given enough information here to what is allowed. u say u must remain completely stock but u still ask for ways to gain power. find your rulebook. read it. if you're allowed to change some things then specify exactly what they are. maybe you;ll get some tips.

I just assumed u were trying to cheat with mods that can't be seen. Seriously if it's gotta stay completely stock then ur stuck aren't you? Not sure what else you want. Guess you could put different gears and final drive in your transmission and get a tune. Port and polish idea would still work I suppose but not much help without bigger intake and exhaust. Can you swap to a different engine and just keep that stock. A Jdm d16a would give u nearly 20 more HP and it would still be 1.6L sohc and look the same. Like he said we gotta know more about your rules

Dude if your trying to keep stock, then I'd go with computer mod or new Ecu.. Megasquirt2 is a stand alone Ecu you can modify all fuel maps, intake, etc. you can buy it pre made or make it yourselF

That wouldn't be stock now would it?

For what you said that has to be stock i'd say port match intake, some head work in addition, and thermal intake gasket. Should give you a few ponies there. =) Hope you use some of this advice. We'd love to see the work.

Also a thinner head gasket would give you some more compression points. And head studs may be needed at that point but they wouldnt know would they?
