Okay okay. My parents just recently bought a 2003 Honda Pilot LX. Yeah yeah, it's nice. My parents have this thing about all the cars in our house have an alarm so we obviously have to get one for this. The local shops around here are quoting us for WAY too much and not many of them carry Viper anymore. They wanted $550 to install a Viper 791xv Pager alarm. Rediculous IMO. We don't need the pager s**t, it seems too "out there". We need something that simple, something from DEI, starter and alarm is fine. Nothing fancy, just something that works. We have a 300-400 Price Range, not willing to spend more than 450+. Any sugguestions...? I was thinking of buying the alarm online and having a shop install it for us. But... Just don't know which alarm is best.. and not sure where to order

Careful, not all shops will install stuff that you don't buy from them.

go to radio shack, buy a switch adn some wire and make a kill switch or two. far more effective and far cheaper than any alarm will ever be.

It's a Pilot, not a civic. They wouldn't let me go in and start splicing wires and taking apart the interior.

If they didn't install what we wanted, we would either complain until legal action gets taken or argue until they give us a full refund. =)

Most of the shops/bestbuy/circuit city/etc. have quoted us over $350.00 for the Honda Pilot and they want us to bring all the keys there. Something about the Chips inside the key needs a box to bypass the starter and s**t. They also said the alarm is NOT Viper/Clifford/Python/DEI/Etc. it's, "CrimeStopper" and "STAX" or whatever. I don't trust brands that i've never heard of before.

Any sugguestions opposing Viper or whatever. What do you guys use? Remember we need a starter with it ;)

shops can be real dicks somtimes... i got my viper791xv installed with "Vocalarm (the talking voice)" installed for 450. Which is also way overprices but i had no other choices. DOnt bother getting the two way pager, its a waste my s**t only works from like 200 feet which doesnt really help the pager feature. And ask your parents if they really need the auto start... Its nice to have but only time i use it is when i want to showoff and show people how my car can talk.

In conclusion i would suggest just getting the basic viper alarm which should save a couple hundred bucks

They really do like the remote start feature. In winters we use it alot, we're thinking of ordering the Viper 791xv online with two extra remotes and one backup non-LCD and getting it installed from a local shop but I really want to know what other options are out there. Are the Clifford G5 or whatever series good? The LCD alarm isn't really needed but there aren't many Viper places around here. The "certified" viper seller around here wants 550 for the 791xv and 350 for a basic without starter.

Yeah, I agree. You don't really need the voice talking or the remote start. Most of the time the remote start doesn't even work the first time.

I disagree.

Remote starts are worth EVERY penny. I have it and so does my gf on her 04 Civic. Everyone in my apt complex are envious b/c when it snows, they all freeze their asses off while I just give it a good 10-15 mins running while I finish dressing and I walk out the door and drive away.

On new Hondas you will have to sacrifice a key. I recommend the Valet key (the grey one) as you really don't use it anyway. They will hide it in a security box somewhere in the car. Some alarms let you use some kind of emulator to simulate the chip, but I have heard a lot of problems with them. If you really want another Valet key, just go back to Honda and have one cut. It cost me about $100 from the stealership. Some bull crap about labor to program the key (I think it was 30 mins of labor).

We put a Crimestopper in her car. So far so good. It's just a basic alarm with remote start. It has pretty good distance. Hers was $300 installed. I don't think DEI makes Crimestopper. I have DEI and the range for my remote start is amazing. I do hold up the remote to my head as an antenna =) so I get better range.

Damn, 100 for a valet key? We got charged 76 Dollars from the Local dealership for 2 Normal black keys. So they take one key and hide it somewhere? I don't understand this concept. This car is starting to be more of a hassle...

Don't forget all the new Hondas have the chip in the key. That's why it's so expensive. The reason you leave the key hidden is so the car thinks the key is in the ignition. It bypasses the chip security.

dei has just released its new generation of interfaces. The new one for the pilot does not require a key. It can be special ordered at bestbuy. We do not stock it on account of trying to get rid of all the old modules.

And with buying over the internet. I wouldnt suggest doing that. Even if the manufacturer will still warranty the alarm, no shop will do the warranty work for free.

The 791xv is $500.00 installed at Bestbuy. The interface for the old system is $50.00 and the new keyless interface is $89.99

If you brought a shop a 791xv off the internet they would probably charge you around $300-$350 to install it depending on shop. I know I would.
Then if you had any problem and needed it removed for warranty work, the shop would probably charge you again to remove and re install.
