I have a 1989 Honda civic hatch. It's all stock. My friend was driving it and the car just died on him in middle of the road. I looked at it and cylinders 2 3&4 had oil in them. I ran compression.check and all cylinders hit about 125psi. I checked my spark and it was good. I have fuel in all cylinders you can smell the gas when you take the plugs out. The timing is still in. I have no clue where to go with this. Some one suggested maybe a headgasket? Any opinions? Anyone plz

i have NO idea, but it might be worth it to do a leak down test, and see what readings you get from that

The oil in the cylinders is probably helping to hold cylinder pressure during your compression test. If it's not coming from the headgasket, maybe bad spark plug boot seals :what:

i dont think spark plug boot seals would do it because tehy dont lead into teh cylinder, they only lead to teh spark plug, which would fill the tube up......right?

If the oil sits in the boot long enough it could eat its way through to the cylinder

If the oil is milky that would be a good sign of a headgasket.
And I agree with Billy saying that the oil in the cylinders are sustaining the psi in the compression test, that's essentially what a "wet" compression test is to see if the rings are truly bad.

I agree a leakdown test is in order.

Thanks for all the help guys. For a leak down test do I just turn the motor over by hand till it hits compression on my tester guage and just leave it there for a few minutes?

To do a leakdown test, you fill the cylinders with compressed air, to pinpoint your leak then.
