hey guys, well let me try to make this short because
iv been having this problem since i installed my new sony unit..
and its gotten alil complicated..
first things first:
car is a 99 civic ex..
new radio is a sony xplod mex-bt2800.
basically, one of the dips*** original owners installed
this crappy oldschool pioneer unit and while doing so, instead
of being smart and getting a wiring adapter, cut the oem wire harness
and hardwired everything himself/herself...and since i picked up the
car only the left side speakers work; the front tweeter, front speaker
and rear speaker..right side speakers are completely shot :x
and pissing me off!

*this is where it gets confusing*
here we go, what is SUPPOSED TO BE the radio wiring for a 99 civic:

-Constant : + Blue/White
-Accessory Switched: + Yellow/Red
-Ground: Black
-Illumination Wire: + Red/Black
-Dash lights controller: + Red
-Left Front(and tweeter): + Blue
-Left Front: - Gray/Black
-Right Front(and tweeter): + Red/Green
-Right Front: - Brown/Black
-Left Rear: + Blue/Yellow
-Left Rear: - Gray/Yellow
-Right Rear: + Red/Yellow
-Right Rear: - Brown/White

sony unit wires:
-constant: + Yellow
-accesory: + Red
-ground: Black
-antenna: Blue (not using it)
-bluetooth: Light Blue (not using it)
-amp: Blue/White
-left front: + White
-left front: - White/Black
-right front:+ Gray
-right front: - Gray/Black
-left rear: + Green
-left rear: - Green/Black
-right rear: + Purple
-right rear: - Purple/Black

at first, when i plugged all this in correctly, only the right tweeter and
left rear speaker would work. then i realized, after opening my speakers
on the doors, that on my car the front wires are switched around,
where the red/green and brown/black are on my left and the blue and
gray/black are on my right. so with this i switched them around..and nothing!
then nothing turned on. so i messed with the wires switching them back and forth
back and worth until i finally got something..i had to be switching the negative cable from
my batt on and off so you can imagine how much of a f***ing mission this was =P
and finally, i got the enitre right side to work! but left is still shot..
the set up as of now on my car is this:

purple set matched to the blue and gray/black wires (but for some reason the left side goes on??)
*when i took apart my left speaker it shows red/green and brown/black??
and green set matched to blue/yellow and gray/white (which is 100% correct)
and thats it! when others are connected nothing!! not even a whisper!
please help me! did i do this correctly?? is something missing??

also, i was told to tape up the car's red/black wire (illumination) because it wasnt needed..is this correct??
and then the car's solid red wire (the one that controls the dash lights) where da fuhh
does this one go to?? because i tried connecting it to either the radio's yellow(constant) or the
radio's red (accessory) and my dash lights only come ON when headlights are OFF and turn OFF
when headlights are ON..which is def wrong!! please anyone with good electrical know-how
please please help me on this! thanks in advance..i know this was a bit of a rant...sorry

this is actually the same diagram you posted on another thread that i followed lol
but still no dice RonJ..my wires seem to me mixed up somewhere internally on the car..

where does the red/black (lights on signal) wire connect to on an aftermarket radio?
and where does the solid red (dash lights brightness controller) go to on the radio as well??

thanks for the quick response btw

The Red/Blk and Red wires are different sides of the same dimmer circuit. Your Sony radio apparently has no use for them, meaning there's no dimmer controlled illumination. Just tape their ends and leave them disconnected.

ok. problem solved with that, thanks!
now that thats out of the way..
how do i go about turning my dash lights ON with the headlights?
because i seperated and taped up the red/black and red wires apart,
and now the dash lights wont come on at all? not when the headlights are on OR off?

please be patient with me, i know i suck at electrical

The dimmer circuit should work fine without those two wires connected. 7.5A dash fuse 30 is probably blown.

lol yeah i also printed this diagram from you on another thread..

anyway, i checked all fuses under dash, 30 wasnt blown but replaced it anyway
and still nada..could it actually be the dimmer controll unit thats on the left side of the steering wheel that may
be busted? because i do remember seeing you posting that on another thread but i havent had the chance to
actually checking it..

Visual inspection of fuses can be unreliable. But we'll return to that after trying this:

-Is the dimmer switch turned off?

-If not, pry the dimmer switch out of the dash and unplug it. Use a short piece of wire or a paperclip to short the Red wire to the Blk wire in the free connector. Do the dash lights now work?

they should call you RonJ - God of Honda

lol

switch was not turned off

and i tried your test, with a short wire and YES! dash lights operated correctly as they should!
with headlights on and off!

now whats next? should i just completely disconnect the dimmer switch?

Nice. You could either replace the dimmer switch or permanently splice the Red and Blk wires, though in the latter case you will lose the dimmer function and the cluster and heater control panel lights will shine at full intensity whenever the parking lights are on.

permanently splice the Red and Blk wires
^^this.
lol i never got why theres a "dimmer" in the first place? it'll be nice to just have
them shining at full intensity i mean who honestly puts the lighting at the lowest
level?? ive never seen it :P anyway thanks for the help Ron, i
know its been a b***h..

as for the speaker problem? any advice on that?
i was going to tear up my interior and try to trace all speaker wires
to make sure theyre going into the correct speaker...is there anything
i can do that will make this easier for me?

haha

basically,
my red/green and brown/ black wires are on my left-front side
instead of my right side (where theyre supposed to be according to that diagram above) BUT
when i plug the radio's right-front speaker wires to my blue and gray/black wires, which is
my right-front, the left-front speaker comes on instead?

Isn't all of this telling you that, while you think the wires are swapped, they actually are not -- wire them up as the diagram says you should.
