Need your thoughts on the exhausts sounds

Hey, I'm in New Zealand and I own a Goldish Silver 96 EK Civic SOHC Vtec. Just bought it recently, done some slight changes to the exterior but none on the performance parts..
I'm now trying to do the exhausts and need some opinions from you guys..
I'm just looking to get better sound from the car. Definitely NOT TOO LOUD (our Stupid country have limits on the exhaust dB).
I'm trying to decide from 2 choices that I thought of:
1. Get a 4" tip 2.5" inlet Muffler and nothing else.
2. Get pipe done from the Cat Converter with same Muffler.
Which do you think will be more efficient and LOW noise (if that's possible) ??
( I want those sounds that are similar to that most slightly modified Vtec Civics Sounds like, if you know what I mean..?%$^)
Any other thoughts will also be a help~

ok first dont get anything that is 2.5" it sounds good at first and then it makes a weird noise at the end. Do not get anything bigger than 3.5" for the reason u are going to let too much air out and lose hp or torque. What i like to do is go to gatherings and listen to peeps exhaust. then ask them their setups.

Don't go bigger than 2.5, civic's strive on back pressure! 3" is for turbo set-ups or other forced induction methods.

exactly, back pressure is huge when it comes down to Civics...you dont want to get anything over 2.5" pipes, but I woudnt even go over 2.25"..my 2 cents

i have a 5zigen fire ball exhaust sounds really sweet. no too loud nor to deep. I 'm always getting compliments on the sound. Doesn't sound high pitch either like those universal exhaust.

i heard the apex'i WS are hella tight . but if ur not into the noise than u should avoid the apex'i N1 which can set off alarm cars while driving by it. haha

I have an Apexi N1 style muffler from ebay. Payed $30. I had my 1.5 set up to fit the 2.5 inlet, got a couple adapters and welded it. It was the perfect sound I was looking for, real deep, and never gets whiney. My friends say they can hear me comming from far away with a bass like tone. Luv it.

thermal is my choice too, one of the best sounds exhausts i think.

I would go with a skunk2 catback, apex'i N1, or and HKS hyper. best sounding, deepest tone

Yea skunk2 is what I have also....... it is by far one of the best sounding exhausts..... I get compiments on it all the time

apex n1 and ws is good along with greddy evo, hks hi-power and the my favorite is the spoon n1

all the exhaust sound great trust me cuz i've had everyone i've listed except spoon, but that will soon come!

i've heard the comptech exhaust for the av6, and it's pretty quiet unless u're at wot. it wasn't loud when riding in the av6, but that's cuz u can barely even hear the road in an av6
