i remeber someone saying there is a switch to let the engine know if the clutch is pressed our not and you have to f**k with that so the engine can start without it being pressed in... and you absolutely have to be in nuetral, if not then your car will crash into your garage by itself

Hey man, i dont know if there is a way to bypass the clutch so that is you leave iit in gear the car does not start. However, behind the clutch there is two wires, which send the signal to the ecu when the clutch is pressed in. If you splice those two wires and permanently connect them together., the ecu will think the clutch is alwasy pressed in and thus your remote start will operate accordinglty. All you have to do is remember not to leave the car in gear when you turn it off. The rest of the install is the same as for a normal alarm. You just have to do the rest of the connections for the remote start, such as tapping into the tach wire so the alarm senses when to turn the car off when it has finished heating up. The starter and all the other basic wiring taps that have to be done. Its not hard you just have to give it a try.

hey man, forgot to write this on the other post, there is a diagram of all he wiring that needs to be done when installing a remote start. The diagram is at www.the12volt.com, on their homepage click on vechile diagrams and then just click on civic. That diagram should eliminate alot of time when it comes to probing wires prior to installation.

I am an installer and there is no way to let the brain box know you have it in gear with these cars. If it was a cable shift asembly then you could use relays and switches....but not for the Honda Civic you have. Your tach wire is near the ditributer in a two pin plug in the engine bay, its a single blue wire not pluged into anything.....almost every honda is this way. 12 volt is a white wire, starter wire is black/white, accesory wire is yellow, ignition wire is black/yellow, all of these are in the steering column. In the kick panel are your parking lights which is a red/black wire, the lock wire is a green/white, unlock is a green/red, and door trigger is a light green/red. Your brake wire is at the brake pedal, a green white wire.Civics are pretty simple, takes about four hours for a alrm and remote start. Don't know why it took someone 12 hours to put an alarm on your car Hooked. Need anything else just ask.

my remote start install took me about four hours and about 6 coronas. pretty straightforward though. we were goofing off the whole time in my boys shop. just get the schematic for your car, it will save you a lot of headaches. and always remember to leave the car in neutral unless you want it to drive to work without you.

I remember my buddy had a Chevy Sprint turbo 5 speed and he remote started it once when we were at the junk yard getting parts......the thing bucked and then slowly took off. Funny site seeing a grown man yelling at a little car to stop while running after it. I also know of a guy on the Mazda Protege5 forum who's car actually jumped the curb and drove down the street finally stopping once it hit another much taller curb and missing a bunch of cars. He now needs a new rim and front bumper, but he could have done alot more damage if his car had hit parked cars. Just remember these things when you install this on a five speed.

yep it happens. just get yourself in the habit of leaving it in neutral. i have had remote start on my 5 speed for 3 years now and not one runaway car.

I got a compustar, has a safety for 5 speeds. Pull ebrake, take key out, car stays running. Open door, get out, shut door. Car shuts off, and alarm sets and locks the doors (or would if I had power door locks). Then you can remote start it. Unless the alarm goes off for any reason, or if any of the doors are opened. Then you will have to get in it, and start it ang go over the process again...

one thing i was thinking about fooling the ecu into thinking the clutch is always pressed... cruise control wouldn't work anymore cuz when you press the clutch down the cruise control turns off... maybe install a spst switch to the clutch sensor wires so you can switch the clutch "on and off"

There is usually a 3rd ignition output on remote starters, for a bypass module or something. you could use this, to send a ground to the clutch switch (The wire on the switch that turns to ground when you press the clutch), and it will only bypass it while remote started. You might need a relay, but im not sure.
