hey guys i just bought a 98 civic ex with a d16y8 motor and manual trans. its got 194k miles and is still running strong. theres only a few things that need to be fixed like the cvs and plugs but thats not too bad. the thing is when i accelerate there is a weird ticking sound coming from the motor, anyone got any ideas on what it is?

could be loose valves or rod knock. hope its neither

adjusting the valves might not get rid of the tick but quite it down a bit, also when i adjusted my valves in my d15b, it made my vtec hit a hell of a lot harder

do you have the correct tool to check valve clearance?

no when i got rid of my 94 delsol i sold the tools too. Update today i was givin it a run and when i shifted out of 3rd into 4th the engine died and the speed gague dropped from 45 to 0 back up to 45 and down again then leveled off at 45. i had to stop take the key out and replace the key and start it again and it drove fine the rest of the drive. btw its a push button start...uuughhh i feel like a noob all over again...lol curse u dodge!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
