New guy, planning B20 swap & boost

First off let me say that I did do quite a bit of searching through for info on a B20 swap into the EG chassis, and I didn't really come up with anything that was helpfull to my concerns.

Okay, now, introduction: Hey, i'm Daniel, I drive a 99 mk3 Volkswagen Jetta VR6 (gasp!) & my bro rocks a 95 Integra LS boosted on ~4psi /w a t3/t4 .63 A/R turbocharger. I'm planning on selling my Jetta really soon for funds for a EG hatch or maybe a 90-93 DA integra. The Jetta is an awesome car and spanks my bro's boosted LS, but it's really unreliable and it's time to try something else out now. I've got it marked @ $6500 and planning to find a hatch for around $2-3k and then swap in a B20 and switch over my brother's turbokit, maybe upgrade to a TiAL EWG and raise the boost to about 7-10psi & tune it on Hondata S300...

Okay, so my main questions are as follows:

1. How complicated is the engine swap? (i've got decent mechanic's skills now; I installed the turbokit on the integra, tore apart my ecu for a Chip on the jetta, installed motor mounts, etc.)

2. Is it just a bolt-in "plug-n-play" type of upgrade? Since EGs are OBD1, what will I have to do? Could I just get an OBD2 B18B Integra LS ECU? I've got no knowledge on the OBD conversions, so anything will help. What ECU will I need, or how can I convert it, and what should it be converted to?

3. Anyone have any conversions for bar to psi? If I buy a TiAL EWG, it comes with either .5 or .9 bar springs, what does that translate to in psi? Thanks...

4. Almost forgot, what axles will work? Aren't they the 90-93 DA axles that fit into the EG?

Also, Obviouisly i'll need an integra ls intake manifold, since the B20's is weirdo. And depending on whether the motor I buy has them or not, i'll need a distributor, spark plugs & wires, other stuff.

Well, thanks for any help you guys can provide. I can't wait to start the build... :D

The b20 is pretty much the same as an ls you would need a b series trans and axels from an obd-1 integra hydro trans an obd-1 engine wiring harness from an integra motor mounts from an integra shift linkage and obd-1 p75 ecu and of course the intake manifold obd-1 dizzy or an obd-2 to obd-1 dizzy jumper harness

this is an excellent thread to help you with the swap, he did an OBD2 ls in this thread but the b20 will be an identical swap.
http://www.honda-tech.com/showthread.php?t=2239971
you want 94-00 axles for the swap.
according to the thread i posted you can use the obd2 wiring harness from the b20 motor and just plug it straight into the obd1 chassis harness on the car and it will run fine using an obd1 ls ecu. or chipped ecu with a map for b20, to get the max potential from the motor. or u can use the wiring harness of the motor that comes in your civic, but then you would have to get an obd1 LS distributor.

so, i'll need all the motor mounts too? Do i need to cut the civic's stock mounts out? Or is there bolts... I thought that the B18/B20 would drop right into the civic's mounts. I've never even bothered to look yet.

wow, thanks for that link.... So since the B20 is an OBD2, as long as I have the wiring harness, it will plug right in huh?... Which ECU should I get to get chipped? I'll probably go that route...

Oh okay, all i need is an OBD1 distributor to use the Civic's wiring harness? Wait, so it would be an OBD1 distributor on an OBD2 B20 right?

.5 bar = 7psi
.9 bar= 13psi
Thanks. I'll plan on just using the 7psi/.5 bar wastegate spring then...

Okay so let me get this straight. Everything i'll need for a complete B20 swap is:
1. B20 longblock
2. B18B LS tranny
3. LS shift linkage
4. LS/B20 motor mounts
5. 94-00 axles & midshaft
6. either a LS OBD2 wiring harnesss or an OBD1 LS distributor
7. Chipped ECU
8. Hardware (bolts, etc.)
9. Probably an intake, and a header (already got them woot woot)
10. exhaust system to clear the shift linkage (no problem)
11. LS intake manifold (maybe a skunk2 pro???? haha)
12. Anything else I need to add to the list? Thanks a bunch guys!

I should hit up my buddy's buddy for an LS engine for $100.... It may not be a B20, but we'll see what happens.

Does anyone know if you will get all the same "benefits" from a B20 swap, if you only swap out the bottom block? Like take a normal B18B, and swap out the block for a B20B block, and retain your B18B head, will you get the same effect as an B20 swap? Just curious.

Okay, here ya guys go, these are the current cars. The Integra is my brother's.

Integra: (the FMIC is painted black, and I don't have a current pic of the engine bay, crap lol. I'm about to snap recent pic with the new DSLR sorry.

Borrowed buddy's Rota's for this shot lol

Now, the Jetta:

MY JDM jack in the box ball! Complete with asian eyes and rice worker hat. :D

Engine Shot- Is that a supercharger? Woah. lol

I've heard that the B20 block can't handle boost very well because of it's thin cylinder walls?
Can someone chime in on this?

Sorry if I'm threadjacking.

it's cool, it's also a concern of mine. I've read that it's stronger on boost than a B18B :???:

according to the thread i linked you to, the guy kept all the obd2 parts on the b20, wiring harness and distributor and all. then he said the obd2 engine harness on the b20 plugged right into the obd1 chassis harness on the civic. then plugging and obd1 LS ecu in, he said it ran fine with no check engine lights.
Or like you said, use the obd1 engine harness off the motor that comes in the civic. put an obd1 distributor on the obd2 b20 and plug it all in.

alrighty, sounds good....

my buddy has a wrecked Integra with only 106k miles on the motor, and I might take him on his offer for $500 for everything after the motor blows. It might not be a B20, but it's still a B-series and it'll still be fast as hell. And I can pull everything out of his car for the swap instead of sourcing down parts

Damn, I need a Civic first! s**t! Jetta, sell already!
