New guy

Hey guys just joined cc after buying a 99 civic dx coupe. Its got 176,000 miles which is more than I wanted but after having my 6th gen celica totalled I was left without many options in my price range. Im 20 and I live in maine. I bought the car off of a sketchy guy who said he lowered it. After getting the car home I noticed he cut the springs on the bottom instead of on the top. Basically the car was sitting on shocks and no springs....neat. So I bought some lotek shocks and some cheap coilovers to hold me over and I also ordered a new oil pan and gasket. A small amount of water got into the oil pan and sat on the bottom which caused the pan to rust from the inside out. Now its time for new tires and a new battery and I should be good to go.
This is the car when I picked it up. It certainly looks slammed and that would be because there are no springs :brickwall:

We were taking the car home on a dolly so the front bumper had to come off in order to get it onto the dolly

These are the only pics I have currently but Im sure there will be more to come.

Welcome to CC! :D
Looks like you've got a decent base there. My car is a huge piece of s**t, and needs a ton of work, so you're in good shape haha. Keep us posted, and good luck!

well thanks, its sort of my blank canvas. I bought the car then headed to texas for the summer so it currently at a friends garage. I have yet to drive the car so my friend is going to get it fixed up and inspect it then my brothers going to drive it around for me, that way if it brakes down il be able to have it fixed by the time I get back and have to drive it 4 hours up to school haha hope your car works out for you man, I've been there before

Oh nice! Well at least you know it'll be safe and good to drive.

I'm on the fence about putting any money into mine. It's got horrible, HORRIBLE paint, bad suspension, doesn't pass smog (CA emission.. ugh..), headlights are foggy, trunk is slightly mis-aligned, A/C compressor is going out, piston rings are pretty bad, and to top it off, it's a salvage title. I may just ditch it. I'm getting an RSX Type-S pretty soon here, so I'll sit on the civic for a while and think about restoring it, or selling it to some kid.

I'm on the fence on whether or not to keep my motor and risk something going wrong with the high miles or swap in a b16. I'm still in college so spending the money on a motor swap isnt practical for me so chances are I'l just lower it with my coilovers and do rims and exhaust for now. also considering mugen replica front lip. not sure if i should get abs or pu?

Poly is more flexible. I'd go with poly. Steer clear of shitty eBay stuff though.

Suppose I could post an update! I got lotek brand shocks and struts and went with some cheap coil overs. Also got some shiny lca's and now just need to put on the new tires and I will be ready to roll! My manifold is cracked so I am going to order a full exhaust in the near future as well as headlights and foggies!
