New race car

Just picked up a new race car. Dirt cheap, but it runs surprisingly well. Just posted a poll about engine options, but wanted other opinions on what to do with her..
Me and a buddy coined the term Purple People Eater for obvious reasons.

Track only car, so open to ideas!

1993 Civic EX Coupe, MT 160k miles. 1 previous owner.

Where's good links to parts? I know Hybrid Racing, ProCivic, and AutohausAZ for most.

Virtually any direction you can think of has been covered numerous times on multiple forums. I suggest you consider first making a list of your goals with it then begin researching... alot. Theres a largecwealth of Honda knowledge out there. When you have at least the engine, tranny, power gains, n/a or turbo, etc. roughly figured then our members can help you out further. Good luck!

What kind of track? AutoX? Drag? Nurburgring?

I ask, because drag you'd want to focus on power and traction. AutoX you want to focus on suspension and handling. Road-racing style you'd probably want a combination of everything.

Just an FYI ClubCivic has it's own store, run by @Jay Jay. I can personally vouch for his store beyond just being a moderator, as I've purchased my coilovers, exhaust, and a few other things from him.

If you're looking for turbo or go-fast parts, I would recommend checking out Go-Autoworks. Shop is based in Alabama, I had Greg (owner) fab me up a custom turbo kit for my Civic, and the fitment was absolutely perfect. Great customer service too, I had a turbo clamp break on me, so he overnighted me a few extras free of charge. I'll always vouch for businesses with great customer support. :thumbs up

Plan on going with circut racing, AutoX is too small for my preference. But there's a lot of drag around me, so I also want to make sure it's quick off the line.

After doing some research, I think I've decided to try to find a B18C1 and build that up. Any suggestions on a place to get a full swap? Besides ebay and what not, would prefer to know for sure it's running and in ok condition.

I'd search locally, such as Craigslist. You can find them on sites like hmotorsonline, but you'll pay an arm and a leg basically guaranteeing a low mileage motor.

Agreed, but make sure you search and ask around locally and within a driving distance youre comfortable with. There are Honda specialist shops all over the country and it wouldnt hurt to see if youre around any. Inthe end, you gotta work within your confort level but keep in mind that local Honda deals always exsist. Its usually just a matter of effort and timing.

Yea...that's one of the problems lol. I live in Springfield IL and nobody around here actually does a quality build. I've got post on FB for Chicago and STL hoping something comes up...

Well, that just sucks. Its also a bit surprising being that '90s Hondas are generally very easy to work on. Try visiting local auto parts stores and ask their staff for potential referals. A good stores either personally know or sell parts to all types of mechanics. It might not be a great option but it may pay off. OReillys, Ive learned, sells alot to shops and (if theyre well run) like referring to their good shops so customers remember positive references and keep coming bsck when needed.

Ok guys here we go. Got a B18C1 full swap coming in next week. Now I was told that can attain about 400hp on e85 N/A stock block from a guy i know who's tearing up the scene down in FL. He won't give me the specifics on what to do tho besides springs and retainers.

The B16 V-tec head bolts straight onto the B18 and raises the compression ration to 10.5:1. You only have to tap into the block just below the head at the back to run a small oil line to feed the V-tec control valve. This way - whatever direction you go - you can have a stock cam for moving round the pits, on/off the trailer, etc... and fit the squarest profile secondary cam you want... with endless options right off the shelf. I speak from experience with a B20B Frankenstein, not as some newby magazine inspired theorist, but as someone who has built LOTS of Hondas for club racing, including my own one which is Australia's most successful Civic.
An Apexi piggy back computer is cheap & allows you to richen the fuel mixture up to where it needs to be, and best of all adjust the V-tec cut in from the factory 5,500rpm to just 3,300rpm!

I'm sure you'll get endless advice on this build, but torque is what wins races - not just horses. I'd also recommend a good quality lsd . Honda ones for this model don't spool up properly. I bought mine second hand from the States, so you should have no trouble finding one. Without it you only get power to one wheel, which just leaves you spinning the inside wheel exiting corners - as you can see in my video - but with lsd you just LAUNCH out right from the apex.

Hondas are beautifully engineered to become race cars (fantastic flowing heads, full independent suspension, etc.) and ENDLESS options about performance improvements to the degree few other economy marques of basic cars offer in adapting them to the track. Enjoy the confusion & dilemmas. It's like having five hot girlfriends & having to decide which one you'll get serious with.

Simple suggestion being you dont have close builders near you is. B18b swap, 3 bar map for boost, ACT Maxx xtreme clutch, a prefer turbo set up of your choice with a gt35 turbo with 12psi of boost can get you nice and simple racecar.

Understanding youll need injectors for boost and a tuneable ecu.

You may want to ask around for a tuner that can help you with tuning.

I own a racecar. When I started with my simple B18b turbo 12 psi i use to run 11.8 on a 1/4 on slicks.
