I have an 86 Civic CRX HF, my car was just not warming up so I changed the thermostat, After that the car would not idle, kinda weird. I have been searching the forums for similar problems but nothing had matched my exact problem. This is what it does, start it up idles about 2500rpm (prolly a little high) but when it kicks down from idle it dies imediatley, like there is no gas there. I can keep it running by staying on the gas pedal. the things that makes it so odd is that all I did was change the thermostat, and now it wont idle.

This is what I have done so far, bled the coolant, changed the fuel filter, changed the coolant temp sensor.

any advice would be really helpfull

Thanks

Sounds like a vacuum issue. Did you remove any hoses, are there any rotted or broken lines? Could be air locked as well. I have reset the comp before by taking off both battery terminals and touching the ends to drain all power. Leave them off for a few mins and reconnect. Might work, it has in the past on some different vehicles. Please keep updated.

Hope this helps and thanks.

I did not disconnect any vaccum hoses and i looked at as many as i could, they look pretty good, i even tried some throttle body cleaner while it was running and never changed, so i dont think its a vaccum leak. but disconnect the battery and see if it does anything. I am at work atm so i will have to do it tomorrow, i will let you know the results.

thanks

i am not sure if it was, i know it has been changed by the previous owner, he gave me the old one, i have only had this for 6 months or so. not sure what has been done to it for maint. it does have 209,000 miles on it. but purs like a kitten when its running.

ok i tried the disconnect the battery reset computer thing, no luck there, (when i had it running i pushed the gas just enough to keep it running and the exhaust smells pretty rich), so the next thing i am going to look at is the carb base plate to see if its cracked.
