New to the Honda club! Engine upgrade?

Hello everyone im looking at getting an engine upgrade! I currently have a stock! 2000 Honda civic ex 1.6 manual, 4 cyl. Im looking to upgrade my engine to a bigger Civic engine or Vtech! I want as much horsepower as I can get and the most bang for my buck! I will turbo the engine eventually but I just do not want to put a turbo on a stock 1.6 engine.! Any suggestions? You have a d16y8 VTEC engine. VTEC engagement is at 5500 RPM'S. Best bang for your buck would be to swap a bigger 1.8 Acura integra engine. Or you can swap a 1.6 b16a2 Honda civic Si engine.

as much horsepower as you can get eh? costs quite a bit of money for that. There are over 1000whp K series turbo setups out there but they aren't cost efficient. what is an actual potential power goal?
