newbie ecu question

im new to honda engine management computers among other things and ive read write ups on swaps in honda tuning but im still a little in the woods about what ecu to choose for my swap.

im planning and gathering parts for my 95 coupe. aiming to swap in a non vtec b18 and use a modest turbo setup to put down 220-250 hp. i know that the 94 integra is obd1 and the engine and ecu will swap rite in with no need to modify or swap my wire harness. i hear that these cars will really scoot with just the swap, though like i had mentioned i really want to turbocharge.

some good guidance is all i need

Make it reliable and place your vehicle systems up to par before tuning. There is a whole thread on what you need to know for the guidance you want. Before tuning, always make sure it is reliable and safe before you drop in turbos and such. Even then, once you are ready there is a lot you must do to run boost from your turbo safely. Read up and do your homework. google is your friend. do this before you post.

the reliability of my systems and all that jazz is a non issue. im quite capable of performing the swap and making a reliable and safe vehicle. I should have worded my question different I guess.

what im asking is what is the difference between the different designations of the ecu's? p28...p75... I understand some are for auto and others for m/t. but are there advantages to one or the other? im curious as to why someone would choose a particular ecu.

I may be a newb but make no mistake I am no flat bill wearing punk who wants all the answers handed to him. ill do some more homework but the question, I thought, was appropriate for this particular part of the forum.

If you are boosting, you will need a chipped OBD1 ecu. Honestly, p06, p72, p28, doesn't really matter. I think the P30's and P72's have knock control.

It doesn't matter when chipping since you will need to have a professional tune the car once you are done installing everything. The tune will override the stock parameters.

A really good site to learn about tuning and all that is pgmfi.org. I believe it is run by a guy named Dave Blundell out of Cincinnati but it's been a while since I have been so I may be wrong. Also, Phearable.net is a decent resource to read their FAQ on chipping, tuning and so on. Hope that helps.

As for the swap, it won't scoot by any means NA but a bosoted LS done properly can do some dirty work when ya want it to. There is a HUGE LS-T thread on honda-tech that may serve you well.

You probably already found this info by now but the difference in ECU's is how they control a particular motor. If you do a motor swap (stock), you'll want to swap in the ECU that is specific to that motor. That's why people pick the ECU they do. Again, stock.
