a BOV isnt necessary for any amount of PSI, but you could technically harm the turbo with all the pressure backed up without having one ;)

how many psi's can you run with out a bov.
You don't need one but without a bov the compressed air will have nowhere to go out when you shift but back towards your turbo. It will make the turbo spool the oppisite way possibly f**king up your snail and not to mention create major lag :( You can get a DSM bov for pretty cheap so I don't see why not just install one :what:

thanks, a guy pulled up beside me in a sentra and reved up and it made weired sound, i knew it was turboed, but it sounded funny, and when i asked how many psi's he said 15, i asked what that funny sound was, he said he did not have a bov, it was his wastegate.

like said above its not needed at any psi but you could potentially damage the turbo and we woudlnt' want that happening. certain kits also might have the compressor housing designed to handle that. for instance the alpine turbo kit for my car, the compressor housing is designed to handle the backlash of air. honestly i wouldn't go without a BOV above 10 psi. thats just my personal feeling. its a piece of mind thing really.

My brothers turbo diesel doesn't have one and he runs 10psi but diesels are different from gas in so many ways.

the real name is compresser surge, and yes it will f**k a turbo, and very quickly i might add. after 8 to 10 psi you will want a bov. its kinda dumb to ruin a good turbo over somthing as simple as a 20 doller dsm bov.

thats not a decent answer.... thats like saying you can run a intake system without a filter on it... while it may be true it will everntually cause damage

Without a bov you are adding stress to your turbo. There is no way to say that if you only boost 4 psi that the extra stress will or willnot affect anything. Even if it doesnt ruin the turbo, it is putting extra stress on it. In my opinion there really is no reason not to have a bov, although some turbos may handle it, why add the stress, becuase if that s**t breaks, you can easily get a peice of debris ending up into your engine, and that would really suck to ruin a turbo and an engine over a part you can get on ebay for $25 all day long. Hope that helped a little. And if you need a bov, I have a couple (dsm, greddy, xs power)
