well, ohms refers to the resistance. i'm not so sure of what, but most likely the sub itself. the 2 ohm sub has less resistance to the power going to it. i had two kicker comp vr 12's that were 2 ohm. only had a 600x1 kicker amp and a cap and i won the local sound off competition, or SPL, with 147.5 db's. i was in the 301-600 watt class, but i was still louder than a jl w7 with a 1000 directed amp, and 2 12" L5 solobarics with a directed amp. Never heard an alpine type r sub b4, but the stats are on par with the comp vr's.

i can't give a real definition, but when you look at an amp it says this x@ 2 ohms (x being amount of power) or x@ 4 ohms, so if you have (2) 8 ohm subs, then the amp would be powering @ the 4ohms power, but if you had (2) 4 ohms subs then amp would be powering @ the x@2ohms

a good little wiring guide

by the way, mtx has some good stuff, the subs are ok, amps are damn fine... imo the box makes the system, I had 2 lower end mtx subs getting powered by maybe 300 watts peak in a sealed enclosure and it was loud as hell. Do some HW and find out whats best for you

In this case, ohms don't matter for the sub as much as the amp. But there is NO doubt about it that ALPINE TYPE R's are thee best subs on the market. I've never seen a sub pound like type R's do. MTX- i've only heard of problems from them, and my buddy went through 3 of those rockfords before giving up on them cuz they kept exploding under circumstances that any type R would greatfully handle.
