Why was his car not idling? I got a buddy with a turbo'd escort that is having the same problem, so I was just wondering what was wrong?

might be iacv or bad map sensor
or some wire is not connected it can be many reason
if the idle is going up and down it's def either FITV or IACV or vaccum leaks
i need to see the car in person

He's probably running the so called shity blue box, get rid of that s**t and go hondata and get proper tuning.

OUCH. That motor is a timebomb waiting to go off. That sounds horrendous. My engine sounds exactly like it did when it was NA(except for the turbo whistle and stupidly loud open dump pipe), so there's something seriously wrong there. I even have my stock o2 sensor unhooked right now and I still idle fine.
