ok to my knowledge i have a 89 civic dx with a 91 teg engine/trans, ecu, and dash yes he swapped the entire dash from donor vehicle for some reason. my prob was the po's cheapo guages were not working corectly. i removed them and the car wont start. i tried to trace them back but there all the same color (speaker wire) and are wired in all over in a rats nest of wire nutted chaos. yes ron j and bloodshot this is the part were you say i told you so lol its hacked. my question is if i go grab a ef dash from my local junkyard ($65 complete) will everthing plug up? how much of a project is it gonna be? ive tried searching for harness adapters and all i can find is mpfi swaps, im assuming thats already done since the cars been running of the a1 ecu? prob a teg engine harness? im still happy w the car for what i paid for it i just want it done correct and oem guages would help too so it seems worth the $65

I told you it was a hack job.....

Anyway, so to get this straight because it is not very clear to me at the moment-

You yanked the aftermarket gauges and now the car won't start.

Won't start how:

It cranks and doesn't fire
It doesn't crank at all
Zero power in the car

Your move

zero power sorry i should have specified. but after seeing the mess of wires rather than re rig his hackjob i really want to kno how to do it correct, as in ef dash and proper wiring that doesnt scream fire hazard lol.

There is no way of telling if it's plug and play at this point. Who knows what is in there now. My suggestion would be to get a proper harness for the car and start from there. THIS is exactly why I would never by someone's rats nest of a project no matter how cheap it is unless I am going to part it and scrap it.

what harness? the engine harness runs the car and a dx wouldnt run a ls right? but my dash will come with a harness i just dont kno it itll plug in or need to be rewired or pinned for the ls ecu or whatever other plugs there are

You had power before and now you don't. Why not just check to see if you blew any fuses or you have a bad ground or something of that sort.

Unless you are really wanting to rip apart your dash and install a new harness in there.

yea i deff should check fuses first, especially now that i noticed absolutley nothing works not even lights. but yes after i adress the problem i do want this garbage outta my car, and have the peace of mind of a clean and correct dash/wiring to prevent future headaches. i would eventually like to make it a nice car

ok update, i checked all fuses in cabin and engine bay no luck still dead, there was ALOT of wires cut spliced ect. and id rather not attempt to fix the existing harness. i gotta loaded da dash with cluster switches ect. for $40 so new plan is teggy headlight to tailight harness w my new teg dash & cluster, not so easy to find in my neck of the woods tho

I would say buying a factory wiring trouble shooting and diagram shop manual would be the best thing. Read up on the manual and look @ what your have left of the original wiring. Make a list of what you need and then go to the J.Y. and know you got what you need b4 you start. Pull all the BS wiring out 1st and start from there. Wiring isn't all that complicated if you look @ it for what it is power source, fuse, to a light , motor ect.then to ground. The honda factory manual has detailed pix of locations and harnesses. LG
