I got a stock dx and was looking at some vids online of people who'd taken just the stock muffler off and it sounded alot better than stock and not farty. I have yet to remove the muffler cause the bolts are to grimed up, but i was wonderin when i remove it if the sound is good what kind of piping can you buy that will bolt to the stock exhaust and allow possibly a muffler tip to be put on.

Don't do it. "Sounds good" is subjective but taking the muffler off to "sound cool" is not the way to go. IMO it sounds HORRIBLE. This is what strengthens the ricer stereotype.

If you want your car to sound better, do it the proper way and get an exhaust, preferably a nice one and not some cheap garbage eBay one.

Don't waste your time, it's not going to sound good at all.

Not sure about DX's exhaust setup but you could get an axle-back muffler. This just replaces the end segment of the exhaust (muffler) and adds a little tone to it. Cheap way to sound better. But the best way would be to get a complete aftermarket exhaust. You would see the most benefits from this. I had an e-bay catback exhaust and honestly it didn't sound bad at all. I just got lucky with the one I got. The only problems I had out of it was fitment. The mid-pipe hung far too low and scraped on anything. Which is the lesson I learned that's making me go the right way with my DC4 and get a reputable name-brand exhaust. Learn from others mistakes or make it yourself.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m9s9NeLlCIg thats one of the vids, granted it is a different model and vtec but from what i hear theres no fartiness. And yes i have looked into "real" mufflers and whatnot, I like the sound of the ws2 the sp2 and some like that. However, ive read in a few articles that most of the better flow mufflers wont give you anything verses stock and that a straighter pipe, not a full straight pipe like no cat no resonator, can be the most flowing without a backpressure problem.

Ideally i like the concept of straight pipe, but have heard the straight pipe sound of most civics and they sound horrible, but mine is vertually soundless right now so...
