Not happy w/ my new sound system

For the holiday season, I bought a new sony GT300 Xplod MP3 player, Pioneer 3200T (2 channel) amp and an Infinity 10.1 Sub.

I did the installation by myself and the sub is connected to the speaker out of the amp and the amp is connected to the head unit (audio out) by RCA cables, and remote turn on. This is all.

And I'm not getting great sound from this system. Basically all I feel is that the Sony head unit's internal amp is the only one doing the amplification and the sub is booming. The sound isn't neat!!

The power wires for the amp and the RCA cables snaking through on opposite sides of the car.

I don't know how to use the Speaker Input connect in the amp... this is what I suspect I'm missing since no speaker connection from amp to the car speakers........

Thank! Bless ya.

um... so basically you have the headunit running your mids and highs, right?

of course it sounds like poo. the sub is all you're gonna hear, especially if you have stock/crappy speakers.

did i understand this?

Yes you understood it well. What's the purpose of the speaker input jacket in the amp? The manual doesn't explain well...this is an extra socket I've w/o any connection. The RCA cables are going to the "RCA Input Jack" at the back of the amp.

Thanks,
JJ

the speaker level input on the amp is for situations where you dont have RCA cable output on the headunit. therefore you would need to tap into a speaker wire [usually rear] and use that as the sound input for the amp. but in your case it sounds like you have RCA out on the headunit. so you needn't concern yourself with it.

Xplodes aren't known for their quality for their reliability. Although they say "sony" they're actually a sub-devision of the company that's not affiliated with the higher-quality stuff you'd put in your living room. That's why you can find them at Walmart and other bargain-hunting venues. But in terms of your particular problem... I dunno, dude. When it comes to electronics, I leave it to the pros.

turn down the gain on the amp...does the headunit have a subwoofer out?...you need to level out your sound...(until you buy another amp for your mids and highs)...

I was never a big fan of Infinity subs.
Then again have you ever done anything like that before?
If not then I would advise you to take it to experts that really know what they're doing.

You'll never learn much with that type of attitude.

Try different settings and configurations, and see what each one does.
Research and experiment, then when it is all done you could say that YOU did it.

I work with experts in the car audio department every day at Best Buy.
I don't have much to learn, so my advise is to take the car back to experts and at least watch what they do.
I think before I speak. Done.

Sounds like you just need to do some adjusting

That head unit should have a subwoofer control and your amp has a low pass filter.

The amp is just going to drive the sub...not your other speakers
