I'm about to pick up a 97 dx, with no tach- so here's my questoin, and i'm pretty sure you can't/ and or it's illegal- can I get a gauge cluster of an ex or si or anyhting with a tach, and change the mileage to match the mileage on my car? I am trying to avoid a ricey sidemounted tach.

There's a thread on this somewhere.. lemme check.. As in physically doing it, yes, you can do it.. Legally, however, that's a fuzzy area.. I mean, Ive written my milage down and have my trip odo running so I can add the milage to the milage on my old cluster and matching it on my new cluster when I get the chance.

Edit: Isnt there a way to actually swap out the outer faces? Ive heard there is a way...

Yah.. you can swap the cluster and keep the speedo one and just change the guage face. You gotta pull STRAIGHT UP on the needle. And pretty hard too.

that's a bad idea right there. pull out or break the needle and you'll have to buy a whole new gauge for whatever needle you broke.
as for swapping the faces, you won't be able to. the dx cluster is entirely different from the ex and si cluster. changing the mileage on the cluster is illegal....although it is possible....

you can get an ex cluster.. remove the whole speedo assembly (it just unscrews) and put in yours.. the reason i say ex is because the gauge face is the same as the dx cx hx
