I looked at my car a little while ago and I notice oil dripping very slowly and then I check the oil and it was low. I lifted the car on jack stands and I look under and my oil pan is covered in oil. I check the filter and nut and I didnt see oil coming out from there. I did see that the part where the oil meets the block, and it had oil around it. I think the oil gasket is bad or something? I have no idea whats up I just know that oil keeps dripping. Not sure how long ago this happen but im guess yesterday when I was at metro auto I was exiting the lot and there was a steep angle between the lot and the street sort like ___/ and I heard a bang. Could it be that I f**k up my oil pan? I dont see dents that would indicate that....well Just want to see if it was safe to drive to work and back for today because I dont have time to take it to the mechanic. I add extra oil to make sure it doesnt empty out. If its a oil gasket how much? Oh also nothing has change in the car no weird noises or vibratons no signs of nothing just oil gets low and oil drips on the floor.:(

ok def. the oil pan gasket. NOW I want to try and do it myself. How hard is it to do? I can get the gasket and I have all my basic tools and torque wrench. Do I need anything else and also anyone knows how to take it down. Sorry still havent bought the haynes book for my car. Need instructions on how to replace the gasket and specially how many pounds to set the bolts. Thanks.!

get a haynes...its good to have around for simple matters

if you think you cracked your oil pan....then yes add oil, and check frequently to make sure you dont run dry. if you cant find a visible leak, then i guess you can spend your hard earned cash and take it to the ever so discerning eye of a mechanic. but if you feel its the pan...go get a new one at a junkyard or something and buy a new gasket and do it yourself.

yea I think im gonna have to wipe the pan and everything around it and then just turn the car on for a few and lift it and check whats really happening. Im gonna just do that and then tomorrow buy the haynes book, 4 quarts of oil and filter, and oil pan gasket which Im guessing is only that cause like I said I cant see any cracks or dents that show its letting oil out. well for today im just gonna keep adding oil because I have to go to work soon and dont have time to repair.

[hey dog to change the oil pan gasket is really easy.all you have to do is jack up the car and drain the oil out and might as well go ahead and change your oil filter while your down there.first just take off the guard around it if there any then there going to be a couple small bolts and nut (nothing to worry about).screw it off then what you want to do is put something to cover up the bottom block because you dont want any dirt going on the crankshaft or on the connecting rods.then just take off the old gasket and wash oil pan out.the last time i change minds i use gas to wash it out with because it cleans it better plus it's dries quicker.then just put the new gasket on and screw it back in and put some gas in it and your good to go.
