Oil Pressure running to turbo.

How much oil pressure should i be running into the t2/t3 turbo? I ran a 3/8 line to the turbo which I'm sure is too big. what do i do? It's smoking like a b***h, and i'm thinking it's from the turbo, leaking oil, but i'm not sure. The seals are new in the turbo, and it spools good and spools fast. I'm just using a lot of oil.

Have you checked the charge pipes for oil?

A friend of mine with a turbo D ran too big of oil lines and blew the seals in the turbo. Using a flow restrictor will fix that.

get a restrictor. bushing-type turbos only need 15psi of oil pressure. a stock Honda can put out upwards of 60 at WOT

also check the routing and size of your return line. make sure it isnt kinked or kind of "U" under the actual oilpan flange. also the minimum ID of the line/flange should be 1/2"

Where do I get a restrictor? is it adjustable? and do I just put it inline with the oil line? Yes the charge pipes have a little oil in them. and my spark plugs are saturated in it. My friends D puts out near 100 psi at wot. I was running some cheap ass oil line into the turbo and it blew on me, I replaced it with some better line, but my engine bay is covered in oil. What is the best way to clean this s**t out? I've never had so much oil everywhere. One things for sure, this s**t ain't rustin'.

I have a -3 line with restrictor and 1/2" drain.

Do you think i should get a restrictor....i mean is the pressure that much for the turbo to handle properly? (without leaking out the seals or something)

you want a restrictor with a .060 diameter. function 7 sells a nice billet one, but you can buy a cheaper one from http://www.mcmaster.com, just search 'restrictor' and order the .063, its close enough.

if you have a -3an feed line you dont need a restrictor

some people do, it depends on the turbo, my friend had a -3 and it was still smoking, he threw on a restrictor and it fixed the problem. especially in older turbos with more shaft play, having a restrictor does reduce oil consumption, even with a -3 line.

also helps with knockoffs, which are notorious for weak seals.

i use the Function7 on my XSpower t3, and its been working great for 2 years :thumbs up

i dont really think that the size of the line matters in the case of oil pressure the bigger the hose would just mean more volume but the same pressure. i use 3/16 brake line for my oil supply with no restrictor and it works fine a restrictor is a good idea though, as most of the time the addition of a turbo will actually lower your engines oil pressure mine with a turbo is around 70psi but without is around 80psi and as stated above the seals on a turbo arent designed to handle that much pressure.
